Chapter 160: The Hunting Group

Destiny's Dominion · 第一六零章 猎团

Not long after the group returned to the Teutonic chariot, the military magic-energy radio on board received a signal. Qi Tai put on the earphones to listen, then turned to Li Mochen and said, “The company wants us to return to Atlanta as soon as possible. The sooner the better, they say.”

Li Mochen, covered in dragon blood, raised an eyebrow. “Did they say why?”

“Not clear. It’s low-frequency radio; we can’t converse on this.”

Qi Tai shrugged. “It’s not a cell phone, boss.”

Li Mochen knew that cell phones used high-frequency waves and required communication base stations, but several communication companies in America had only built base stations within a hundred kilometers around Ghost City.

It wasn’t that they didn’t want to expand—charging magic-energy professionals high fees could bring huge profits—but once the range exceeded a hundred kilometers, their base stations would be frequently destroyed by dark creatures.

And the low-frequency waves, the only means of communication in the dark world, couldn’t support voice conversations.

“I’m guessing Nathan’s Saturday sales figures are out. They must be explosive.”

Jeremy Burt smiled as he guessed. “If the sales weren’t huge, they wouldn’t have a reason to call you back now.”

“Alright, aren’t we already on our way back?”

Li Mochen was also eager to know how Nathan’s sales had fared yesterday, especially the Lucky Bracelet—that product was tied to his income.

He figured that after returning to Ghost City this time, none of the people present would be interested in coming out again. Li Mochen himself felt the same; a single Mountain-Swallowing Python and a Black-Scale Fire Dragon had already left him feeling full and exceptionally satisfied. In the short term, he didn’t want to move.

“After this trip, I’m giving myself two weeks off!”

Eliza said cheerfully. “But does anyone here have suitable sales channels? We can sell these things at the Targaryen Magic Materials Store, but the price won’t be ideal, and we’ll easily attract attention.”

“Leave this to me.”

Jeremy Burt said calmly, “I guarantee a price 10% higher than your magic materials store, and no one will reveal who the seller is.”

Li Mochen sat in the back seat, silently examining three items in his hands. The first was the source crystal and magic crystal of the Black-Scale Fire Dragon—as a magical creature that simultaneously wielded magic and source power, the two dragon crystals inside it each condensed different types of energy. They were intertwined yet independent.

The second was the beast crystal of the Mountain-Swallowing Python, also fist-sized, crystal clear like a sapphire.

The last was the dragon horn of the Black-Scale Fire Dragon. The Black-Scale Fire Dragon was enormous, 55 meters long and weighing over eighty tons. Logically, its dragon horn should also be massive, but the Black-Scale Fire Dragon was not a true black dragon; the horn on its forehead was only palm-sized. It was actually a high-purity magic-energy crystal, exceptionally hard.

These three items, after discussion with Jeremy and the others, he had taken for himself at a price of 400,000 gold shields. Now Li Mochen was deeply observing their texture and structure.

The two dragon crystals of the Black-Scale Fire Dragon were a pleasant surprise to Li Mochen. They held great value in alchemy and could serve as core components for many magical artifacts.

But what Li Mochen cared about was not their use in artifact crafting, but the possibility of using these dragon crystals to rapidly improve his cultivation and break into the seventh rank.

And if he used them properly, they could also help Xuanhuo enhance its combat power and become a true dragon lich.

As for the other two items besides the dragon crystals, Li Mochen planned to refine them into magical artifacts of this world. But before that, he needed to find time to hone his alchemy skills; otherwise, he would only waste these treasures.

As time passed, Li Mochen gradually became absorbed, until Chu Siguo in the front seat suddenly issued a warning, pulling his gaze away from the source crystal.

“Something’s up. That looks like a large hunting group.”

Everyone in the car tensed up, looking ahead through the windows. A large number of modified battle vehicles were approaching from the opposite direction, vast and menacing.

Even Li Mochen’s expression turned serious, alertness in his eyes. The others instinctively gripped their guns.

They had no choice—the items in their car were worth millions of gold shields, so they had to be extra cautious.

The dark world around Ghost City generally adhered to the order of the American Federation, where magic-energy professionals wouldn’t kill each other without reason. But when large sums of money or interests were involved, the outcome was usually not good.

For example, in the struggle for the divine artifact ‘Dragon’s Might,’ major factions even drew blades against each other within Atlanta city. Over the past centuries, the Van Derrick, Wiltonshire, Howard, Van Pitt, and Lyndon families of Atlanta had waged countless secret wars in the dark world.

Even among various hunting groups and freelance professionals, firefights and killings over thirty to fifty thousand gold shields were common.

And the hunting group before them, with twenty heavy armored vehicles and three magic-energy tanks, must have at least six to eight Outlaws sitting in command.

“Chu, steer a little to the side.”

Jeremy Burt’s body tensed briefly, then relaxed. “Everyone, act natural, okay? Don’t be too nervous. We’re disguised and our scent is masked; they won’t see through it right away. Don’t forget, I’m one of the best magic-energy hunters in Atlanta at tracking. I can guarantee they can’t smell the dragon meat or blood for now. So just react normally. A-Mo, give us an illusion—an Eastern illusion. I know you’re good at that. Mainly cover our faces. It would be a shame to give up the dragon blood enhancement now—”

Chu Siguo was already very calm. He turned the steering wheel and brushed past the edge of the convoy, passing by.

Only when the glaring high beams gradually faded from the windows did everyone in the car finally relax.

“Looking at their emblem, it should be the Fenrir Hunting Group—a bunch of notorious guys. We’re pretty lucky; they didn’t notice anything unusual.”

Jeremy Burt whistled, finished his sentence with a smile, and then cursed, “Shit!”

Because strong light appeared again in the rearview mirror. Several heavy armored vehicles behind them had turned around and were speeding toward them, while someone shouted through a loudspeaker, “Stop the car ahead, OK? Our boss wants to ask you a few questions.”

Everyone in the car, led by Eliza, glared at Jeremy Burt with reproach. Chu Siguo shifted into fourth gear and stepped on the gas, making their Teutonic chariot gallop across the wilderness like a wild ox.

“The Fenrir Hunting Group has a terrible reputation in the dark world. Many magic-energy professionals have died at their hands. If we actually stop, we’re done for. Even the Nathan Group’s reputation might not scare them off.”

Qi Tai explained to Li Mochen while opening the top hatch and moving to the machine gun position. The others also picked up their weapons.

Jeremy Burt picked up his sniper rifle. “Don’t worry, boss. The car Nathan provided is really awesome. They won’t catch up.”

But no sooner had he said that than Li Mochen, sensing something, looked back and saw two rockets spewing flames and black smoke hurtling toward them.
