Chapter 163: Numbers
Destiny's Dominion · 第一六三章 数字
Meanwhile, in the north of Ghost City, a burly black man in a black leather coat was staring gloomily at dozens of corpses on the scene.
Around him, hundreds of magic-energy professionals stood in mournful silence, their faces grim.
The somber atmosphere shifted only when three modified motorcycles approached. Everyone looked toward the bikes with hope in their eyes.
“BOSS!”
A middle-aged man in a leather jacket, dressed in punk style, came before the burly black man: “We’ve traced it. That car belongs to Nathan Sports Group. The people inside should be security personnel from Nathan Group, escorting a man named Andrew Lee Wiltonstein. Two days ago, this guy became a household sports star across Georgia. I also found two others involved: Jeremy Burt, chief detective of Sky Eye Detective Agency, and Alisa Targaryen, a collateral branch of the Targaryen family. They brought monster materials worth 13 million gold shields to sell in Ghost City. A large portion comes from a level-19 black-scaled fire dragon.”
“Good!”
The burly black man coldly drew a knife from his waist and tossed it to a young man with dyed blond hair and a body as lean as a cheetah: “Go to the Bright World and kill this Andrew for me. Can you do it?”
“A high school sports star? That shouldn’t be hard.”
The young man smiled, stowing the gleaming three-foot blade into his weapon bag: “I’ll take his head.”
“But—”
The punk middle-aged man hesitated: “This Andrew is quite strong himself. The media generally rates him around 8S-level combat power. Nathan Sports Group takes his security seriously. Andrew Lee Wiltonstein is already their top star in Atlanta. It wouldn’t be surprising if he has Outlaws around him. Boss, that’s Nathan Group, and he’s a Wiltonstein.”
“Theodore!”
The burly black man still looked at the young man, eyes sharp: “Did you hear that? Are you confident?”
“Of course! For a magic shadow warrior like me, numbers don’t matter as long as their class levels aren’t too far above mine. I doubt a Legendary will show up, right?”
The young man raised his chin confidently: “I won’t let you down, Father Fenrir! But it’ll take time. I’ll wait for the right opportunity and eliminate him!”
“You’ve never let me down, Theodore. You’re a fine lad.”
The burly black man praised him, then jabbed a thick finger at the punk middle-aged man: “I don’t care if this Andrew has the Wiltonsteins behind him or if that son-of-a-bitch Nathan Group will retaliate. What I care about is that he killed my people, understand? So, do you know what you need to do?”
“I understand!”
The punk middle-aged man took a deep breath and nodded firmly: “I’ll provide support for Theodore. Andrew is his; the rest are mine. But I’ll need three Outlaw-level fighters to help. You know, Nathan Group’s security are mostly from the Cobra unit. That Jeremy Burt, though his class isn’t high, is very famous in Atlanta—a tough nut to crack—”
…
“Lucky bracelets?”
Carl, who had returned to the Bright World amid a flash of spiritual light, laughed: “I wanted to surprise you back at headquarters, but it seems you’re impatient. Amo, want to take a guess?”
“Wow, keeping me in suspense, huh?”
Li Mochen’s lips curled slightly. Just from Carl’s expression, he could tell the lucky bracelet sales were good—otherwise, why the surprise?
“Let me guess. Ten thousand sold?”
Selling ten thousand lucky bracelets in one day would already be impressive. After all, they were ‘minor’ magic equipment priced at 15,999 gold shields; it was unlikely to sell too many on the first day.
In fact, even around three thousand would be a decent result.
“Wrong. It’s a number you wouldn’t imagine. In one day, we sold 39,800 units. That means our stock in major stores will be gone in at most a month. So congratulations, Amo—you’re now a multimillionaire. I think in three years, you could get over a hundred million gold shields from our company.”
Carl Holton said as he walked out of the Seal Magic Hall.
Then Li Mochen saw a luxury convoy parked at the entrance of Atlanta’s Light Cathedral.
These guys had blatantly driven their cars inside the cathedral district.
While he was stunned, Carl Holton strode over and got into the central armored SUV.
It was also a Daimler product, model ‘Otto I’. Though not as massive as Daimler’s ‘Teutonic Chariot’, it was still a behemoth in the city: six meters long, 2.4 meters wide, 2.5 meters high, with 40mm magic-energy homogeneous armor.
Surprisingly, this behemoth, which could roam Atlanta, was equipped with a gun mount carrying a live 25mm ‘Brutal Annihilator’.
Li Mochen thought, How excessive, as he pointed toward the car door and signaled Alisa with his eyes.
But she shook her head, declining his invitation to join. Li Mochen had no choice but to gesture a phone call by his ear.
He wanted to recruit Alisa under his banner—trustworthy people were rare, and the girl had good talent.
But it seemed that would take time—
Watching Alisa walk away, Li Mochen boarded the ‘Otto I’ and sat beside Carl. The latter placed a car key in his hand.
Li Mochen was stunned for a moment, then understood: “This is my new ride? So I’ll need to stay in this car when I go out?”
“It’s for your safety. The ‘Otto I’ costs 1.5 million gold shields—much flashier than your Lotus 350 sports car.”
Carl Holton had noticed Li Mochen’s mood: “I can see you’re reluctant, right, Amo?”
“Indeed. It interferes with my freedom.”
Li Mochen nodded: “I’d prefer to hire two or three Outlaws myself to handle my personal security.”
Carl frowned: “Of course, it’s your choice. But Amo, we’re offering you four special forces veterans, reliable level-13 magic professionals. Their salaries are at least 1.5 million gold shields a year each. If you hire your own, you’ll have to pay even more—tens of millions annually.”
Li Mochen didn’t think the cost was unbearable. It was better than having everything under Nathan Group’s watch. He’d already considered hiring Outlaws.
“I can afford that price, can’t I? I’m not saying I don’t want your company’s people—I just need some personal space. Like my residence, or activities within the city—”
In short, he wanted the guards Nathan Group provided, but not at the cost of his privacy.
