Chapter 237: Verification
Destiny's Dominion · 第二三七章 核查
Shortly after Li Mochen stepped down from the arena, staff from the NHSAA Competition Committee came to inform him. The committee was urgently forming an investigation team with third-party participation to look into whether his match against Cadio Rhodes had been manipulated by external factors or involved collusion and cheating.
The Competition Committee wanted him to wait at the Storm Stadium, as they were organizing personnel and equipment to conduct a comprehensive physical examination and drug test.
Li Mochen felt somewhat helpless; he had hoped to leave the stadium quickly after the match. Earlier, Louise Lyndon's request had already made him reluctant.
But now it seemed that even if he refused Louise, he wouldn't have a chance to leave early.
Fortunately, the Competition Committee did not prohibit him from contacting the outside world. Using the method of telepathic transmission, he communicated with Alyssa Targaryen and Li Tailai, who had come to watch, and managed to send out all the necessary messages.
Mainly for battle preparations, Li Mochen's requirement was that as soon as Dainn Stacy, a Level 17 Temple Warrior, was in position, they could launch an attack on the Gerald Refinery.
He also had Li Tailai prepare orders to send combat instructions and new employment contracts to three A-class medium-sized mercenary companies that were on armed standby, one minute before the battle began.
Considering the reliability of the mercenary companies, Li Mochen did not intend to have them directly participate.
Then there was Isolde Lyndon, the assistant bishop, whose power must also be contacted and utilized. Since Louise Lyndon, the heir of the Lyndon family, had guaranteed his trustworthiness, Li Mochen could trust Isolde. This man was even more reliable than his own employees who had signed soul contracts. A prestigious family like the Lyndons valued their reputation highly and would never allow their family name to be tarnished.
He also believed in Louise Lyndon's foresight; she would not scheme against him for no reason and rashly make an enemy of a force that had defeated Antonio.
Li Mochen then met briefly with his private lawyer, Mike Ross, who had hurried over, and afterward waited alone in the lounge. The Lyndon Academy team match ultimately did not require him to take the field, and they advanced directly with a 2-0 record.
Their opponent this time was actually quite strong. But by now, William Jacques had grown into a fairly outstanding magic shadow user, and together with Lena and Angela, two powerful Level 7 magic professionals, their combat strength was almost a bug-like existence among the dozens of high schools in Atlanta. The result was without any suspense or twists, a complete碾压 victory.
Twenty minutes after the team match ended, several staff members from the NHSAA Competition Committee arrived again and escorted him to a dedicated physical testing room in Hall D of the stadium.
The room already had a large amount of equipment, and now some more had been temporarily brought in. A crowd of people in white lab coats gathered there, making various adjustments and preparations to the equipment.
“Amo, today you can fully display your abilities.”
Carl Holton and Mike Ross walked over to him together. “The NHSAA Competition Committee has agreed to protect your personal privacy and interests to the greatest extent. Everyone here, including several journalists, has signed confidentiality contracts and Styx oaths. As long as your physical exam and drug test are clean, they cannot leak any of your test data to the outside, and there will be no video or audio recordings throughout the process.”
Li Mochen frowned at Mike Ross; he didn't recall making such a request.
What did it matter if the test results were leaked? There was nothing shameful, and besides, he hadn't planned to go all out.
“Amo, I didn't take the initiative on this, nor did I make such a request to the Competition Committee.”
The latter spread his hands helplessly. “Clearly, we've already been represented by someone.”
Li Mochen then turned his gaze to Carl, who cleared his throat and said, “I'm not entirely sure of the situation, but Mr. Peyton has already made a serious representation on your behalf.”
His eyes wandered around, then he whispered into Li Mochen's ear, “The stores of Xuri Company are opening in ten days, right? I heard that the African Agricultural Aid Association and the Somali Poverty Relief Fund plan to invest 30 million gold shields to purchase various household appliances for poverty alleviation and aid.”
Li Mochen looked at him speechlessly. “They also intend to manipulate the betting odds on me, don't they? Such behavior is unethical, and I won't allow it.”
“They guessed you might refuse, so they didn't plan to ask you beforehand.”
Carl Holton also spread his hands. “You can't stop it, can you? The Nathan Group has that kind of power, and the gamblers' lives are none of our concern. As for you, Amo, you could try to clarify things in the major media.”
Li Mochen clicked his tongue, knowing Carl was right. These betting companies controlled the media and could easily distort the truth. Even if he shouted loudly in front of reporters a hundred times that he was strong enough to sweep all high school fighting stars, what good would it do?
Most TV stations probably wouldn't broadcast it, and newspaper reporters would be 'persuaded' before publishing.
So for now, he was indeed powerless against this matter.
So he quickly changed his attitude. “Thirty million is too little; I want at least one hundred million.”
Li Mochen thought that rather than letting the betting companies pocket the money they earned from gamblers, it would be better to make them bleed a bit more and help him solve his financial difficulties.
But he couldn't make it look too ugly. The price of the appliances sold by Xuri Company to these charitable funds couldn't be set too high. From this 30 million gold shield order, he could at most earn 4.5 million in net profit.
Besides, since these charitable funds were buying so many appliances to give away, it could barely be considered a good deed, and might even earn him some merit.
“Alright, I'll negotiate for you again!”
Carl Holton didn't care about the order amount; it wasn't Nathan Group's own money anyway. He walked out with his mobile phone for about seven minutes, then returned to Li Mochen with a smile. “Fifty million gold shields—that's the limit they can offer. Africa doesn't need that many appliances; second, if the amount is too large, it's hard to avoid future trouble. But after this purchase, you'll have to cooperate to some extent without harming your own interests.”
Li Mochen's expression then showed some hesitation.
“Don't worry, they won't go too far. Otherwise, the Betting Regulatory Commission won't let them off, and the Nathan Sports Group won't allow them to damage your image.”
Carl Holton cautiously suggested, “If I were you, I'd sign agency contracts with a few big companies as soon as possible. That's the best way to deter these幕后黑手.”
“OK!”
Li Mochen finally took off his jacket. “Carl, you mean I should do my best, right?”
“That depends on your own will, but the stronger you show yourself to be now, the more favorable it will be for the NHSAA Competition Committee's ruling.”
Carl Holton rubbed his forehead in some distress. “Amo, your physical test data probably can't catch up to Cadio Rhodes. So the key is the practical test. This time, you'd better get a 10S rating. Note that the third party hired by the NHSAA Competition Committee is the Exxon Magic Laboratory, and their practical test methods are slightly different from our sports lab.”
