Chapter 479: The Arrival of Yun
Destiny's Dominion · 第四七九章 云至
"I missed you!"
Angela puffed out her cheeks and clung tightly to Li Mochen's arm: "A Mo, you're so heartless, leaving me alone for over twenty days. I was worried you'd be seduced by some vixen."
Beside them, Eliza rolled her eyes, while Li Mochen gave an awkward smile: "I had things to do, didn't I? And I called you whenever I had a free moment."
"You did call, but only three times, and altogether it was less than an hour."
Angela snorted, then dragged Li Mochen toward the dance floor: "Originally I wanted to surprise you, but on the way I ran into those two annoying people. By the way, why did you come so early? With your status now, it would have been most appropriate to arrive an hour later. Was it Anthony? Actually, that's fine—at least you can show a humble attitude before those Freemason seniors. I guess Anthony did it on purpose."
The corners of Li Mochen's mouth twitched slightly, and he cast a reproachful glance at Anthony, who was already surrounded by a crowd of socialites.
He must have been set up by this guy; both he and Eliza were at a disadvantage due to their lack of experience in such high-society occasions.
If he had known this beforehand, he would have chosen to arrive at the right time. Who wanted to show humility before those so-called seniors? It was completely unnecessary, a waste of time.
Just as Angela pulled Li Mochen onto the dance floor and began to whirl, on the other side of the dance floor, Ladia Medici's eyes seemed to blaze with fire as he looked at them.
"Does glaring at them like that do any good, Ladia?"
Joseph Don Quixote sipped his wine with a cold expression: "You're making me regret coming with you. You look just like a beaten dog."
Ladia finally withdrew his gaze, but the chilling, icy aura emanating from him made several nearby socialites shudder: "That bitch, she has defiled the honor of the Medici family. Just like her father, both of them are jackasses. And that bastard, I can see he regards my warning as nothing. No, neither I nor the Medici family amount to anything in his eyes. This is a very courageous fellow—"
"Verbal threats indeed have no deterrent effect; they only make you look uglier in that bitch's eyes, making her think you're weak and incompetent."
Joseph shrugged: "If you feel the family's honor has been tarnished, then wash away the stain. If you want to win her, you have to show her your strength. Show your mettle, Ladia. A man should be domineering. As far as I know, aside from that missing Richard Medici, you are the family's second choice for a marriage alliance, right? If you show your spirit, your family will give you enough support."
Ladia was momentarily stunned, turning to look at his friend.
The latter wore an indifferent expression: "Considering we're classmates, I can give you a hand. If you need to use any resources, just tell me. In return, I hope to receive similar treatment when I go to the Old Continent later."
"Joseph, are you serious?"
Ladia raised an eyebrow: "After all, it's the Wiltonshtain family. Though not in the Supreme Sequence, it ranks in the top thirty in America."
"So what? Just a lucky half-breed bastard. And we are Don Quixote and Medici."
Joseph disdainfully placed his empty glass on a nearby waiter's tray: "If you want to act, do it quickly. This guy probably hasn't become a force to be reckoned with yet, but in a few years, it might be different. With the Wiltonshtain family's 1.5 billion golden shield subsidy, even an idiot could develop some strength."
"I'll consider it."
As Ladia spoke, a commotion arose at the entrance. He recognized the middle-aged man entering amidst a crowd of attendants—it was Brooks Dante, Vice Chairman of Red Sail Group.
"Wow, the big shots are coming in."
A hint of confusion appeared in both their eyes. As one of the highest-valued traditional conglomerates in America, Red Sail Group was practically the landlord of Los Angeles.
But on occasions like this, the Dante family usually only sent minor figures.
Yet Brooks Dante—though not yet officially the patriarch of the Dante family—had taken over as Vice Chairman and CEO of Red Sail Group two years ago, already the de facto helmsman of this supreme family.
"Something's off, Joseph. Today's ball seems unusual. Someone like Brooks wouldn't show up here for no reason. Have you heard anything?"
"I know nothing—"
Joseph frowned: "You know, I've been writing my thesis for the past half month. My advisor gave me the topic 'Structural Changes in High-Level Blink Since the Middle Ages,' and it's been driving me crazy."
At that moment, his face suddenly darkened. Because after scanning the room, Dante shook off the crowd around him and strode directly toward Li Mochen. After taking the initiative to shake hands, he pulled Li Mochen closer and gave him a hearty embrace.
"Andre, it's not easy to see you lately. My assistant called your office three times, and they said you were busy."
"I really am busy."
Li Mochen smiled helplessly: "You should know, my war with the Dragon Witch Cult isn't over yet, and I have all sorts of things on my plate."
Actually, he was avoiding this guy. Half a month ago, an investment firm under Mr. Brooks Dante had suddenly sent a letter expressing interest in participating in the Series B financing of Sunrise Electrical Retail Company.
Having the head of a supreme family as a shareholder would undoubtedly benefit Sunrise's expansion on the East Coast. The problem was that Sunrise Retail currently didn't lack funds. The speed at which they were purchasing stores in major cities had already far exceeded the pace of employee training.
If they conducted financing now, it certainly wouldn't achieve his ideal outcome.
After all, even the Wiltonshtain family fund's intention to invest hadn't been agreed to yet.
"So you have time to attend the NHSAA competition?"
Brooks let out a hearty laugh: "A Mo, you like being called that, right? What I want to say is, I understand your concerns. The second round of financing for Sunrise—I think we can still talk. I can see the potential of this company and you personally. It already has all the qualifications for nationalization, even internationalization. I'm willing to offer a reasonable, sincere valuation that will satisfy you. And if you're willing to cooperate with me, the sooner the better. I can personally guarantee that no one will stand in the way of Sunrise's dominance in California's industry."
Li Mochen's brows lifted slightly. He looked seriously into the other's eyes, then gave a slight nod: "I'm also looking forward to cooperating with Mr. Dante. We can find a time soon to discuss it in detail."
"Then let's set it for the end of tonight's party."
Brooks glanced toward the entrance: "It's Lieutenant General Boone, the Secretary of Defense. It seems I can only talk to you for now. You're going to be a busy man tonight."
