Chapter 52: Old Acquaintances

Destiny's Dominion · 第五十二章 故旧

In the Daimler S350 sedan, Li Mochen was examining a badge in his hand, made of bronze, with the abbreviation 'HD' in Britannic script on the front and the inscription 'We Are Everywhere' on the back.

Li Mochen did not know which organization this badge belonged to, but he would find out sooner or later. Next, he picked up the confiscated magic gun and several dozen various types of intermediate magic bullets, scrutinizing them. The former was likely a product of the Medusa Firearms Company, as he saw the trademark on the grip.

However, his knowledge of firearms was currently very limited, and he could not identify the model. He could only judge from the magic array and structure on the gun that its power was slightly inferior to his alloy warhammer.

This was reasonable; a Level 8 magic shadow user could not possibly possess an overly good magic gun.

Yet Li Mochen still had use for this item. The Black Mamba Gun Shop was reputable enough, but unless absolutely necessary, he was unwilling to gamble his life on others.

Thus, this gun, whose origin was as unknown as that of the assassin, was a godsend to him.

This made Li Mochen somewhat regretful. If he had known, he would not have spent several thousand gold shields on the factory ballistic record at the Laurel Street black market.

What surprised him even more was that this gun was equipped with a professional silencer, one with a magic pattern array.

Ordinary silencers could not muffle the sound of a magic gun firing; only those with a magic pattern array could do so.

Unfortunately, the cheapest magic silencer sold at the Black Mamba Gun Shop cost 15,000 gold shields, and prices at other gun shops in the Laurel Street black market were similar. Financially strained, Li Mochen could only console himself with fantasies.

He never expected that just four days later, he would obtain this item.

With this, if he encountered a situation like today's again, he could set aside his scruples and directly use the magic gun.

Earlier in the alley, he had refrained from using the alloy warhammer because he was afraid the gunshot would alert a police car just 100 meters away.

He also dared not enter the state of Heavenly Heart Divine Illumination. In that state, Li Mochen was lawless and reckless, caring nothing for the consequences of firing, only worsening the situation.

Otherwise, why would his right arm be injured to this extent?

"This is a Level 4 magic gun, the Alloy Roar 3221, produced by the Medusa Firearms Company. It is an old gun with an eight-hundred-year history. Due to its simple structure, easy maintenance, and low price, it has remained popular to this day."

The one explaining to Li Mochen was the young man driving beside him, who seemed very knowledgeable about firearms, rattling off details: "The one in your hand appears to be modified—the barrel is extended by at least an inch, and the magic array is more complex."

"Thank you!"

Li Mochen replied calmly, unmoved: "But please focus on driving, okay? I find you quite dishonest. The route you've chosen is the one with the most police cars in Atlanta. Are you trying to force me to kill you?"

The young man's forehead and face were covered in fine cold sweat, but he forced himself to stay calm: "But this is also the shortest route to Lake Lanier. Buddy, let me introduce myself. My name is Mike Ross, an associate lawyer at Pearson-Darby-Specter Law Firm. Honestly, I don't think you need to do this. I reiterate, this is legal self-defense; you don't need to worry—"

His words cut off abruptly as Li Mochen pressed his Alloy Roar 3221 against the associate lawyer's head: "But I still need to be interrogated, bailed out, and then face the prosecutor in court. Right, Mr. Associate Lawyer Ross?"

This caused the latter's body to tremble involuntarily, and even the car swayed slightly.

"Boy, please forgive his recklessness. Mike's survival instinct is just too strong."

This came from the middle-aged lawyer sitting in the back seat, whose face was also somewhat pale: "What he said isn't entirely wrong. From a legal standpoint, self-defense does not constitute a crime. But for you, sir, this would be the worst choice. Actually, I recognize you, boy. If I'm not mistaken, you are Andre, the child of Elena Wittenstein, correct?"

Li Mochen was startled and turned to look at him.

"I was classmates with your mother. When we studied at Harvard Law School, Elena was the goddess everyone dreamed of, and I was no exception. You might not remember, but I actually came to your house for your fifth birthday party."

As he spoke, he extended his hand to Li Mochen: "My name is Harvey Specter. Like the man beside you, I am a lawyer at Pearson-Darby-Specter Law Firm, now a name partner."

A flicker of surprise appeared in Li Mochen's eyes.

Come to think of it, earlier in that skyscraper, he had indeed seen the sign for Pearson-Darby-Specter Law Firm. They occupied four entire floors, twice the size of the Kajaran Law Firm.

Typically, those whose names appear before a large law firm are top-tier lawyers in the legal world.

After a moment's thought, he withdrew the Alloy Roar 3221 from Mike Ross's head, tucked it into his inner chest pocket, and then turned to shake hands with Mr. Specter.

The latter's expression visibly relaxed: "Allow me to venture a guess: Andre, you just came from the Kajaran Law Firm and signed a property inheritance entrustment agreement, right? I saw the documents you dropped on the ground earlier."

Hearing this, Li Mochen smiled with anticipation: "And then? Mr. Specter, do you have any advice for me?"

The copy of the property inheritance entrustment agreement had been rolled into a tube and stuffed into his pants pocket. It had indeed fallen out during the fight with that man.

But the text on the copy was very small. Unless Mr. Specter was someone familiar with the situation, he could not have discerned the document's contents in such a short time.

"Of course!"

Harvey Specter's expression turned serious: "Andre, I think you are in a dangerous situation. As someone who stands relatively high in the legal world, I often learn things others don't. There are rumors that the Kajaran Law Firm has been in frequent contact with Antonio, the boss of the Blood Hand Gang. They are eager to secure this big client, even going so far as to take on the lawsuit commission from the Burton Block Homeowners' Association. That name doesn't ring a bell, does it? What about Archibald Apartments?"

Li Mochen's expression gradually grew grave. Archibald meant 'noble and brave.' It was also the name the original owner's father had given to the company's apartment building project.

So Antonio of the Blood Hand Gang was the mastermind behind the targeting of the Rising Sun Company?

"Can you explain? What can they do with a property inheritance entrustment agreement?"

"Andre, if you want to inherit your father's company, signing that property inheritance entrustment agreement is unavoidable."

Harvey Specter actually seemed to know about Li Mochen's situation: "Property inheritance has legal procedures. They can't make too much trouble, and for the sake of the law firm's reputation, they won't. But if it were me, I would focus on the property appraisal price. You know, in America, if the inherited property exceeds 100,000 gold shields, a large inheritance tax must be paid."
