Chapter 92: Ants
Destiny's Dominion · 第九十二章 蚂蚁
In the same office as before, several partners of Cargill Law Firm, including Remington Daniel, along with more than twenty associate lawyers, crowded together, cramming the fifty-square-meter meeting room.
Antonio was also seated inside, his expression grim as he listened to lawyer Bobby Gallerson's explanation.
“—This is a letter we retrieved from the archives based on Mike Ross's tip. It comes from Rising Sun Corporation, explaining the current status of the Archibald Apartments. They have completely halted the apartment project and reported to the city government and the Development Commission to rezone the plot for industrial use. Surprisingly, when I called to inquire just now, the city government said their approval had already come through; they agreed to Rising Sun's request. As for the Development Commission, they only just started handling this matter and are still going through the procedures. They said that without special intervention, approval is highly likely.”
Before Bobby Gallerson's voice had even faded, a commotion erupted in the meeting room.
Antonio, at the other end of the long table, had already crushed the cigar in his hand.
“I want to know, why was this letter thrown into the archives?”
Remington Daniel spoke first, casting a cold, sharp gaze at the liaison team members in the corner: “Can you explain, ladies and gentlemen? Why were we completely unaware of something so important?”
The few of them exchanged glances, all looking flustered. Finally, a middle-aged man forced himself to remain calm and replied, “Mr. Daniel, this is our mistake. But I suspect they must have taken some measures. According to procedure, our liaison team checks every letter and records every call.”
Then he suddenly thought of something, his face turning pale: “It's Tania, Tania who resigned two days ago! She was on duty on Tuesday.”
At that moment, a staff member from the archives frowned: “I've found the records here. The liaison team did submit copies of the notification letter and phone records to lawyer Bobby Gallerson and Mr. Daniel, but you two apparently didn't take it seriously and never acted on it.”
Remington Daniel paused briefly, then instructed an associate lawyer behind him: “Go through the files on my desk, look from the very bottom.”
“Enough!”
This came from a silver-haired elder beside Daniel. Everyone present, except Antonio, couldn't help but straighten up.
—That was Isolde Cargill, the founding partner of Cargill Law Firm.
“Obviously, we've been set up, haven't we? Without connections at city hall, Rising Sun could never have gotten approval in one day. The most important thing now is whether they've done more beyond this? I know Harvey Specter; he's a fox. If he's targeting us, he'll have everything arranged. Now tell me, in the process of contacting Allen Appraisal, is there any chance of problems? I assume you were very careful then, as cautious as always, right?”
But when he asked this, several people in the room broke out in cold sweat. Isolde Cargill's face turned grim and ugly.
Although none of those he asked answered, Cargill had already guessed the outcome.
“So, the inheritance tax will definitely be overturned? And the lawsuit entrusted to you by the Burton Block Homeowners Association will end here?”
Antonio had risen from his seat, coldly eyeing everyone present: “So, my plan to acquire the Archibald Apartments has to start all over again, right? Two months of preparation, hundreds of thousands of shields, all down the drain?”
He waited a moment, and seeing the meeting room dead silent, he turned and left without hesitation: “Gentlemen of Cargill Law Firm, I am very disappointed in you! I'll have my financial manager transfer all previous fees to your account later. Goodbye!”
Remington Daniel slumped in his seat.
…
At the same time, Mike Ross, who had returned to Pearson-Darby-Specter Law Firm with Li Mochen, was smiling slightly: “According to a source, downstairs is in chaos. They're like ants on a hot pan.”
“It's settled; no matter how hard they try, it's useless.”
Harvey Specter tapped the desk: “Actually, sending the lawyer's letter in two days would have been better, more reasonable. If they challenge it in court, we might have a bit of trouble.”
“I know, but I didn't want to see them gloating in front of me.”
Li Mochen thought he could have endured it, but the original owner of this body might have exploded!
In fact, just now, he felt his soul fusion process had advanced further. Clearly, today's actions had greatly satisfied the original owner's consciousness.
—In Li Mochen's view, that was the most important thing.
Harvey Specter shook his head slightly, thinking this was pointless emotional indulgence that wouldn't solve problems. But that was the nature of youth; he had mistakenly thought this friend's son was a steady character.
“Alright, you're the client, you call the shots. But why mention Rising Sun's letter? That exposes us prematurely and loses surprise. Though we did our best, accidents can happen.”
Mike smiled and replied: “That was my doing. I happened to know that a liaison team member at their firm, a woman named Tania, resigned two days ago and boarded a luxury cruise to the Caribbean. I thought it would help divert attention and apply more pressure.”
“You? You always like to act on your own. Fine~”
Harvey snorted: “But from now on, I hope you'll follow our advice. Especially you, A-Mo, you don't want the shields in hand to fly away, do you?”
“Of course.”
At that moment, curiosity flashed in Li Mochen's eyes: “You're asking for 9.7 million shields in damages? Can you get it?”
“Ask a high price, settle for a low one. My target is 4.3 million shields. Beyond that, Cargill Law Firm might not be able to afford it; they'd go bankrupt, which is worse than dissolving and restructuring. As for the appraisal company, 1.2 million shields. Per our agreement, seventy percent goes to us. But I think the remaining amount will be more than enough for you to pay the inheritance tax.”
Harvey Specter smiled slightly: “A-Mo, you know how much our firm has invested for you, right?”
“Favors.”
Li Mochen's eyes flickered: “I'll remember today's events.”
Compared to the nearly 3.8 million shields the firm might gain, the favors they had called in were far more precious.
“GOOD!”
Harvey Specter's eyes showed approval. Just as he was about to continue, the meeting room door suddenly opened, and a sharp-dressed, jewel-bedecked black woman walked in.
Harvey Specter and Mike Ross immediately stood up. The former introduced her to Li Mochen: “This is Ms. Jessica Pearson of our firm.”
Li Mochen understood: “Pearson of Pearson-Darby-Specter, right?”
“Also the CEO of this firm.”
Jessica Pearson smiled and shook hands with Li Mochen: “Mr. Li, I've been following your case. I hope you're satisfied with our firm's service.”
“Of course, I'd give it 100%. If I ever need anything in the future, your firm will be my only choice.”
Li Mochen couldn't help but smile, but he was more curious about her purpose.
Jessica Pearson saw the question in his eyes: “Mr. Li seems curious, so I'll be direct. I'm here on behalf of a client to ask if you're interested in selling the entire Archibald Apartments.”
