Chapter 009: A Common Purpose
获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第009章 共同的目的
Faced with Jonathan's questioning, Wang Bo said truthfully, "Yes, we don't know each other at all, but..."
"Since we don't know each other, then go away." Jonathan interrupted Wang Bo and reached out to push him.
Wang Bo did not move a muscle.
Jonathan was taken aback and pushed Wang Bo again with more force, but Wang Bo still did not budge an inch.
Holy shit, I've hit an iron plate.
Jonathan immediately realized that although he was no fighting expert, he was still a tall, strong man with considerable strength. That push just now, though he dared not claim to have used all his strength, should have been enough to knock a person down.
Even if you can't knock it down, you should at least make the other side take a step back, right?
As a result, the other party remained completely still.
Jonathan couldn't help but look at Wang Bo, and what he saw was a pair of eyes that seemed to smile without smiling. He immediately averted his gaze—after confirming that look, he knew this was someone not to be trifled with.
But in front of his own younger sister, he didn't want to lose face.
"What are you trying to say?" So he stepped back and said, blusteringly.
Laura couldn't help but burst out laughing, finding Jonathan utterly ridiculous. Fortunately, she quickly realized this was very rude and stifled her laughter.
But her shoulders were still shaking.
Jonathan felt his face burning, but he had thick skin and quickly calmed down, staring intently at Wang Bo, his vigilance heightened twelvefold.
This is a very threatening man.
Wang Bo said, "Miss Evelyn, Mr. Jonathan, although we do not know each other, we share the same destination, so I believe we should travel together and look out for one another."
Evelyn said warily, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"No, you know."
"I don't know." Evelyn was as stubborn as a mule.
"Alright, then I'll make it more obvious, Ham..."
"Don't!" Evelyn cried out, stepping forward and quickly raising her hand to cover Wang Bo's mouth. She glanced around and whispered, "Do you want to say that name here?"
Wang Bo shrugged helplessly, indicating that he was unwilling as well.
"What are you doing?" At that moment, a voice came from behind Evelyn.
She turned around abruptly and saw her guide, Rick O'Connell.
O'Connor looked at Evelyn and Wang Bo with a bewildered expression. Seeing how intimate the two were, he couldn't help but feel as if he were being cuckolded, and his words carried a hint of inexplicable jealousy.
"If you two can't help yourselves, you'd better go to the ship's cabin, where there are big, soft beds, rather than staying on the dock—it sets a very bad example."
Evelyn quickly let go of Wang Bo's mouth and explained, "I don't know him at all."
"Are you sure?" O'Connor asked, looking surprised.
"Yes, I'm quite certain," Evelyn said quickly. "But he knows our destination."
O'Connor's heart tightened. His gaze passed over Evelyn and landed on Wang Bo, and he couldn't help but exclaim in surprise, "It's you."
"Yes, it's me, O'Connor."
"You know each other?" Evelyn and Jonathan were very surprised.
"I don't know." O'Connor shook his head decisively.
"Then how did he know your name?" Evelyn was not so easily fooled.
O'Connor said helplessly, "Alright, I admit, we have indeed met, but only once. He used to live across from me, in prison."
Evelyn said angrily, "So, you were the one who told him we were going there."
O'Connor quickly shook his head, refusing to take the blame. "I swear, I never said anything about this."
Wang Bo nodded and said, "Yes, I know far more than you do, Miss Evelyn."
“Really?” Evelyn looked suspiciously at Wang Bo and O'Connell.
She was convinced that the two were involved with each other.
O'Connor couldn't voice his bitterness. He turned his head and said to Wang Bo, "How did you end up here? Who rescued you?"
"I'm not as important as you; no one will come to rescue me."
"Then you are..."
"Of course I ran out." Wang Bo said matter-of-factly.
"Do you think I'd believe that?" O'Connor didn't buy it. That was a prison, not a welfare home.
“I believe.”
A voice suddenly sounded beside O'Connor. He turned his head and saw none other than the warden of the Cairo prison.
This short, stout man looked at Wang Bo with a serious expression. "Last night my adjutant told me that a man had escaped from my prison. I thought he would leave Cairo, but I never expected he would dare to appear before me. You have quite the nerve."
Wang Bo looked at the prison warden, who had died because of his greed, feeling no fear in his heart. His expression was calm, and the unceasing sunlight gave him strong confidence.
"So, you want to arrest me and take me back, Warden?"
"If necessary." The warden replied ungraciously.
"I advise you not to do that, Your Excellency the Warden, for it will make me very angry."
"Are you threatening me?" The warden's face turned ugly. In his prison, it had been a long time since any inmate dared to speak to him like that.
"Yes, I am threatening you." Wang Bo nodded without hesitation. "I believe you should know how I got out of prison."
The warden's face suddenly changed; of course he understood.
His adjutant told him that the escaped prisoner had broken the iron chains before successfully fleeing.
He thought it was sheer nonsense at the time and gave his adjutant a severe dressing-down.
If he weren't busy heading to Hamunaptra and needed the deputy to maintain order in the prison, he would have demoted the deputy without hesitation.
Such a person who dares to make a fool of him must never be tolerated.
But now it seems, perhaps, not such a fantasy?
For a moment, the prison warden broke out in a sweat.
O'Connor asked, puzzled, "What exactly are you two playing at with this riddle?"
The warden thought it over. Whether this matter was true or false, he would not pursue it for now—everything centered on the treasure. Once he returned from the City of the Dead, he would deal properly with this audacious prisoner.
"Alright, I can pretend I didn't see this. It's getting late; we should set off."
O'Connor saw the warden's expression, his heart skipped a beat, and he turned to Wang Bo and said, "You really want to go to that godforsaken place with us."
"That's right."
"And she, this beautiful lady, is she coming along too?" O'Connor noticed Laura.
Laura smiled slightly. "This is something any adventurer dreams of, and I am no exception."
O'Connor sighed and said, "Believe me, madam, it is not a charming place."
Laura replied, "In my opinion, that place is indeed very charming."
"Fine, then come along, but you'll have to cover your own expenses on the road." O'Connor stepped back and agreed to the two of them, figuring it was no different from herding one sheep or two.
"That won't do." Wang Bo refused flatly.
"Why?" O'Connor asked.
"Because we have no money," Wang Bo said matter-of-factly.
O'Connor: ...
