Well, Wang Bo admitted that he was actually still very afraid of the Pharaoh's curse.
But no matter how afraid he was, it could not change Wang Bo's determination to go to Hamunaptra. Because he knew better than anyone the harm that would come from Imhotep's resurrection, he absolutely could not allow Imhotep to be resurrected.
Nor would he entrust his own life to Imhotep.
Or perhaps in terms of luck.
Wang Bo certainly didn't consider himself lucky, and even if the curse of the Pharaoh really existed, and he was cursed, was there no way to break it?
Of course!
The answer is... the Golden Sun Sutra!
Evelyn once said that the Book of the Sun contained all the secrets and spells of Egypt, and that there must be a way to break the curse. So although Wang Bo was afraid of the curse, he was not so terrified that he dared not approach Hamunaptra.
He was not yet so timid.
After he rode a camel into Hamunaptra with Laura, the pervasive chill made Wang Bo's skin crawl all over, but it seemed that no one else noticed this.
It seemed that only those with extraordinary power could sense the unusualness of Hamunaptra.
All those present, except for Wang Bo, were ordinary people.
Even Laura was an ordinary person, with nothing extraordinary about her.
At this moment, O'Connell's group, who had arrived at Hamunaptra earlier, were setting up camp, while Evelyn was taking a walk, carefully examining every stone and wall of Hamunaptra.
And from time to time, she would let out exclamations of admiration, as well as silvery laughter.
It seemed that she herself liked it here very much.
Jonathan saw Wang Bo dismount from the camel and hurried over, asking, "The treasure, where is my treasure?"
Wang Bo pointed to the ground. "It's right down there."
“Are you sure?”
"Of course, if you don't believe me, you can ask your sister."
Jonathan certainly wouldn't disturb his own sister; he nodded to accept Wang Bo's explanation, then asked, "Then how should we go down?"
“Very simple.” Wang Bo took a shovel from the camel and tossed it to Jonathan. “Dig!”
Jonathan fumbled to take the shovel and asked, "Just dig like this, anywhere?"
"Go ask your sister, she knows." Wang Bo replied.
Jonathan shook his head and went to find his sister with the shovel. At this moment, he seemed to trust his sister more than Wang Bo—after all, they were siblings.
After Evelyn had explored all of Hamunaptra, she had the others dig beneath the statue of Anubis, the god of death.
"According to archaeologists, there is a secret compartment in the legs of the statue, where the Golden Book of the Sun is hidden..." Evelyn explained as she directed the excavation, occasionally glancing at Wang Bo as she spoke.
Wang Bo understood her meaning perfectly and replied, "The archaeologist was correct in the first half of his statement—there is indeed a secret compartment in the statue's leg—but the second half was wrong."
Evelyn said, "You still think what Anubis has collected in his leg is the Book of the Dead?"
"Yes."
"Then let's wait and see." Evelyn very much hoped that Wang Bo was wrong.
After all, she trusted the archaeologist more than Wang Bo, and most importantly, she wanted to see the expression on Wang Bo's face when he realized he was wrong—she believed she would be very pleased.
Just as the crowd was digging, a tremor suddenly came from the ground.
Wang Bo looked up and saw a group of people approaching in the distance.
"O'Connor, your old friend is here."
O'Connor looked up for a moment, then continued his digging work. "Don't mind them, we'll do our own work."
This wave of latecomers was naturally the Americans led by Benny, but their numbers were several times that of Wang Bo's group, and the vast majority of them were hired locals.
In the eyes of Americans, they came to seek treasure, not to do odd jobs. So they offered a very high price and hired this group of Egyptians.
After all, Hamunaptra was notorious for its fearsome reputation; if they didn't offer a high price, no one would come at all.
Although this sum of money made Americans wince, they did not skimp, because they believed that as long as they found Hamunaptra, all their efforts would be rewarded.
After the Americans arrived at Hamunaptra, they were astonished to find that someone had already gotten there before them. "Unexpected, O'Connell, it's you."
O'Connell straightened up and looked directly at the group of Americans. "Didn't Benny tell you anything?"
Benny said quickly, "That doesn't matter, does it?"
An American nodded and said, "That's right, it really doesn't matter."
"What did you find?" asked another American.
"As you can see, we haven't found anything—just digging holes," Jonathan replied, afraid that this group might have designs on him.
Just then, a man dressed as a scholar walked over holding an umbrella, for the desert weather was indeed too scorching. "You all, we should go back to work."
A few Americans nodded, and one of them said, "Alright, O'Connor, how about we have a competition—you and us—to see who can find the treasure first."
"Can do!" O'Connor said, not to be outdone. "But I believe we will be the first to find the treasure."
"That's not necessarily true."
After dropping his harsh words, the American turned and left.
Benny gave O'Connor a deep look and said, "Good luck, O'Connor."
“I will.”
O'Connor could hear the insincerity in Benny's words, but he paid it no mind.
After this group left, everyone continued the excavation work.
Before long, the group indeed dug out an underground passage in Anubis's leg, and also found several ancient Egyptian mirrors. Under Evelyn's direction, they positioned the mirrors facing the sun.
O'Connor found a long rope and tied it to a nearby stone pillar.
Having made sure the rope would not break and the pillar would not collapse, O'Connor threw the rope into the cave entrance and, taking the lead, slid down it.
Then came Evelyn, the warden, Jonathan, Laura, and finally Wang Bo.
Wang Bo entered the ancient tomb through the passage and immediately smelled a pungent odor. Before he could speak, he heard Jonathan say, "My God, what is this smell? It's so foul."
Wang Bo replied offhandedly, 'Because this is a preservation room, a preparation room.'
O'Connor couldn't help asking, "Prepare what?"
Evelyn said, "I know that. Prepare to enter the afterlife."
Jonathan suddenly realized, "So this is where they make mummies. No wonder it smells so bad."
