Chapter 038: The Power of God

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第038章 神的力量

“Yes.” Laura said.

Wang Bo looked curiously at the dark alley and said, "Let's split up and search, see if we can find any useful clues."

Laura shook her head and said with a bitter smile, "Actually, I came here this morning. I walked back and forth in this alley several times, touched every brick here, and stepped on every inch of land. But I didn't find any useful clues."

Wang Bo was silent.

The matter of time travel is actually quite unreasonable.

It wasn't as if you could go back from wherever you came. When he first woke up and found himself in prison, he too had tried to travel back from there, but that was impossible.

So Wang Bo eventually escaped the prison, found Evelyn, and joined the journey to Hamunaptra.

Laura's situation was actually quite similar to Wang Bo's; although the two came from different worlds, they had arrived in the same one.

But compared with Wang Bo, Laura was unfortunate.

Because Wang Bo was alone and had no attachments, even after transmigrating to this not-so-simple world, he could still live well—not only because he had money, but also because he had a cheat.

But Laura was different; she had no cheat device.

More importantly, in her original world, she still had a group of companions waiting for her to save. If she didn't go back, those companions might all die.

Of course, if she returned too late, with the Book of the Dead in hand, Laura might still be able to revive her companions.

But the problem was, what if Laura couldn't go back?

What if she were trapped here for the rest of her life? What use would the Book of the Dead be to her then?

Wang Bo knew that Laura had always been worried about her companions, so during the journey to Hamunaptra, Laura was taciturn and barely noticeable.

Now she had brought Wang Bo to this place, simply to tell him that she was homesick and wanted to go back.

Unfortunately, Wang Bo had no way either.

After all, like Laura, he had stumbled into this world without a clue. As for the way back?

No idea at all.

"Tell me, can I really go back?"

Looking at the dark alley, Laura's eyes were full of shadows. She was terrified—what if she couldn't go back? Was she going to be stuck in this world forever?

Wang Bo said nothing, nor did he dare to speak, because he truly did not know whether Laura could go back.

After a long while, Laura asked again, "There are gods in this world, aren't there?"

Wang Bo nodded.

"Then can the gods send me back to my original world?"

"Sorry, I don't know."

Wang Bo truly did not know how powerful the gods of this world were. Although he held the Book of the Dead and could use the spells recorded within it, the Book of the Dead did not contain a detailed explanation of the gods' abilities.

Wang Bo did not know much about the gods.

"So, I can never go back in this lifetime, can I?"

"That's not necessarily the case," Wang Bo comforted. "Maybe one day, you'll wake up and find yourself back in your original world. Just like how you came to this world."

Laura laughed and nodded.

Afterwards, Wang Bo suggested that the two of them search the alley to see if they could find any clues.

Laura agreed.

But as it turned out, this alley was nothing special—just an ordinary alley, which left the two of them disappointed.

But when the two returned to the hotel, Laura's mood had lightened considerably. She had just vented all the pent-up pressure in her heart, and having accepted Wang Bo's comfort, her mood naturally became cheerful.

The next day, the drunken O'Connor and Jonathan lay in bed until nearly noon before they could barely drag themselves up.

During the meal, O'Connell, still reeking of alcohol, rubbed his temples and asked, "How did I get back yesterday?"

Wang Bo said, "I carried you back."

O'Connor suddenly understood, then complained, "No wonder I feel so uncomfortable all over. Couldn't you have sent me back in a gentler way?"

Wang Bo rolled his eyes. "You're uncomfortable because you drank too much, not because of me."

Jonathan sat in the chair like a dead fish, groaning, 'Could one of you trouble yourselves to get me a glass of milk to sober me up? Thanks.'

After a pause, he added, "I feel like my head is about to explode."

"Serves you right." Evelyn came over with a glass of milk and shoved it into Jonathan's hand.

O'Connor said, "Could you get me one too, please? Thank you."

Evelyn curled her lip and said, "Get it yourself."

Laura shook her head and asked the waiter for a glass of milk.

"Thank you, beautiful lady."

"You're welcome." Laura smiled slightly, then asked, "Evelyn, how did your conversation with the curator go yesterday?"

Bringing up this matter, Evelyn said with a displeased look, "You have no idea how despicable the curator is. He is also a descendant of the Pharaoh's Guard, and he even confiscated my Golden Sun Scripture."

Wang Bo raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised. "You actually gave him the Solar Golden Scripture."

"It was he who confiscated it," Evelyn emphasized.

"Come on, given your obsession with the Sun Gold Sutra, if you hadn't let go willingly, there's no way he could have confiscated it from you." Jonathan knew his sister all too well. He was well aware that, though she appeared ladylike, she was in fact a complete madwoman.

To find Hamunaptra, she dared to set out on a journey with a few strangers. If that's not a madwoman, what is?

If she hadn't taken the initiative, the curator would never have been able to snatch the Golden Sun Scripture from her hands.

Even if it was truly taken, Evelyn would run back and bring her own group to snatch back the Book of the Sun.

But now, she had done nothing, merely complained once, and as for the matter of snatching back the Golden Sun Sutra, she had not even mentioned it.

"Alright, I admit, it's my fault."

Evelyn shot her brother a fierce glare, then said, "The curator said that since we've already taken the Book of the Dead, we should leave the Book of the Sun behind. If we fail to keep it safe and Imhotep is resurrected, the Book of the Sun is the only weapon that can counter him. So..."

"So you gave the Sun Gold Sutra to the curator." Jonathan sneered. "You really are a good person."

Evelyn said fiercely, "Jonathan, shut your mouth. If you dare mock me again, I'll throw away all your treasures."

Jonathan quickly covered his mouth.

Evelyn then looked at Wang Bo with an apologetic expression. "I'm sorry, I gave them the Solar Gold Scripture without your permission."
