Chapter 037: The Reason
获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第037章 原因
Wang Bo's arrival undoubtedly shocked everyone present.
In their eyes, Wang Bo had always been at odds with Tony Stark. In New York, even in America, this was common knowledge, known to all.
Tony Stark had publicly mocked him more than once.
But ironically, after Wang Bo shut down the weapons division, Hammer Industries invented the sky ship and flourished.
Although Wang Bo had an unpleasant encounter with the UN at the hearing,
it didn't affect much.
Even if they went to the moon and Mars, with the space ship, Hammer Industries would still be the most profitable company in the world.
Meanwhile, Tony Stark, after shutting down the weapons division, had failed to produce a strong alternative, causing Stark Industries' stock to plummet every day.
Nowadays, Stark Industries' influence was far from what it used to be.
But everyone knew that if Tony Stark were willing to reopen the weapons division, Stark Industries' stock would surely rise steadily and return to its peak.
So the higher-ups in the US hadn't given up on Tony; instead, they urged him every day to reopen the weapons division.
It was for this reason that many people still attended Tony Stark's parties.
But no one expected that Tony would invite an enemy he once looked down on but who now surpassed him, to his party.
Why?
Could it be that Tony Stark was finally letting go of his pride and bowing to someone he once despised?
This is really big news.
If that's really the case, then this matter will surely become a huge piece of gossip that will be talked about with relish by countless people across America—the proud Tony Stark, the arrogant Tony Stark, has finally bowed his head.
For a moment, everyone fell silent, staring intently at Tony Stark and Wang Bo, pricking up their ears to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Hey, Tony."
Just then, a bald head emerged from the crowd. Wang Bo looked closely and was quite surprised—hey, isn't that Obadiah? Hasn't this guy kicked the bucket yet?
S.H.I.E.L.D. really doesn't get things done.
Obadiah walked up and said enthusiastically, "Tony, you actually invited Justin Hammer to the party. Why didn't you tell me?"
Tony said, "I just sent an invitation; I didn't think he would actually come."
Obadiah laughed heartily and extended his hand to Wang Bo, "Welcome to Stark Industries."
Wang Bo shook hands with him and said, "No need to be polite. It's rare for Tony Stark to invite me, and since I had nothing better to do, I thought I'd join in the fun."
Obadiah said, "That's really great."
He waved his hand, called over a waiter carrying a tray, took a glass of wine from the tray, and handed it to Wang Bo.
"Have a good time, Mr. Hammer."
"I will." Wang Bo smiled, clinked glasses with Obadiah, and swept his gaze around the crowd. He spotted Natasha in the crowd, standing next to a man with a very high hairline.
Wang Bo immediately recognized him: S.H.I.E.L.D. Level 8 agent, future director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Phil Coulson!
Obadiah took a sip of wine and was about to say something when Tony interrupted, "Obadiah, I have something I need to discuss privately with Justin Hammer for a few minutes. Is that okay?"
Obadiah's expression remained unchanged, and he said with a beaming smile, "Of course, Tony."
He nodded slightly at Wang Bo in greeting and walked away with his glass.
Wang Bo turned to look at Tony Stark and asked, "What did you want to talk to me about?"
Tony looked at the spaceship behind Wang Bo. "Mind giving me a tour? I'm pretty curious about this kind of thing."
"Sure." Wang Bo nodded, opened the spaceship's hatch, and led Tony inside. The hatch then closed.
The people outside looked disappointed; missing out on a good show and juicy gossip made them unhappy.
But that was none of Wang Bo's concern.
Once inside the spaceship, Wang Bo found a seat and asked, "So, tell me, what exactly do you want from me?"
Tony Stark said, "Was it Obadiah who had me kidnapped in Afghanistan?"
"Didn't you not believe me before? What, now you believe me, or did you find some evidence?" Wang Bo asked with a smile.
Tony Stark shook his head. "I haven't found solid evidence."
"Is that so?"
"But I did discover that Obadiah has been selling Stark Industries' weapons to others behind my back, including terrorists."
"So you suspect him."
Tony didn't lie; he tacitly admitted it.
"So what does that have to do with you inviting me to the party?" Wang Bo asked.
"How did you know Obadiah wanted to kill me?" Tony Stark asked.
Wang Bo was taken aback. "I have my own sources, of course."
"What sources?" Tony Stark pressed.
Wang Bo looked him up and down, then clapped his hands. "I get it. You know Obadiah wants to kill you, and you want to take him down, but you don't have evidence. So you want to get evidence from me, then send Obadiah straight to prison so he can never recover."
Tony Stark said, "Justin Hammer is an idiot compared to you. Who are you, really?"
"Someone you can't have." Wang Bo said offhandedly.
Tony Stark: ...
"Ahem, sorry, just messing with you." Wang Bo said. "Actually, I only know through special channels that Obadiah wants to harm you, but I don't have solid evidence either, so I can't send Obadiah to prison."
"But don't worry, Obadiah is hell-bent on destroying you; he'll make a move sooner or later."
"When that happens, you can go ahead and kill him."
Tony Stark said worriedly, "I'm not afraid of him, but I'm worried about Potts. So I need to get rid of Obadiah as soon as possible."
If he were alone, Tony Stark wouldn't be afraid of Obadiah; in fact, he'd want to fight him.
But besides himself, there was someone he cared deeply about.
If something happened to Potts, he would never forgive himself.
That's why he sent Wang Bo an invitation, hoping to get evidence from him, then deliver a decisive blow, sending Obadiah straight to prison—a win-win for everyone.
Rather than waiting until things were beyond repair and then trying to fix them—that wasn't Tony Stark's style.
Although he wasn't sure who Wang Bo really was, he could sense that this person didn't seem to have any ill will toward him.
But Tony Stark hadn't expected that this mysterious guy also had no evidence of Obadiah's crimes.
Now, Tony Stark was a bit dejected.
