Chapter 019: The End of the War

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第019章 战争结束

The Pacific Ocean inexplicably stirred up monstrous waves, submerging several uninhabited islands. If this had happened before, people might have taken slight notice but would never have paid serious attention.

After all, it was only uninhabited islands that were submerged.

But now it was different. At the bottom of the Pacific Ocean was a wormhole, from which monsters occasionally emerged.

Thus, changes in the Pacific had always been a key surveillance target for the United Nations.

Now that such a massive change had suddenly occurred in the Pacific, the United Nations naturally wanted to take preventive measures. They immediately dispatched a team to investigate.

Stacker Pentecost, former supreme commander of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps and now commander of the space fleet, led a survey team deep into the Pacific to conduct the investigation.

Three hours after the monstrous waves had occurred.

Stacker and his survey team arrived at the location of the wormhole in the depths of the Pacific.

But when they approached the wormhole, they unexpectedly discovered that it was gone.

Stacker was dumbfounded.

His subordinates were equally dumbfounded, at a loss.

"Where is the wormhole?" Stacker asked his men after coming to his senses.

A doctor named Hermann from the survey team said, "If I'm not mistaken, the changes in the Pacific three hours ago were most likely caused by the explosion of the wormhole."

"Wormhole explosion?" Stacker's gaze immediately shifted to the scientist.

He had once been a member of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps. After Stacker applied for a transfer, this guy had followed him. In his words, wherever there were monsters, there he would be.

Besides Dr. Hermann, several others had followed him, including Tendo Choi, Mako, and Dr. Newton.

Hermann nodded, pointing at the empty bottom of the Pacific on the screen, and continued, "The wormhole was originally here. It's not an animal but a phenomenon; it cannot move."

"But now, the wormhole has disappeared."

"The answer is obvious: the wormhole was destroyed, and the energy released before its destruction caused the Pacific upheaval, triggering a tsunami that submerged the uninhabited islands."

"This is the most plausible hypothesis at present."

Stacker stared at the empty space before him, silent. The others were the same. None of them had expected that the wormhole, which had plagued humanity for over a decade and driven it to the brink, would suddenly vanish.

It was truly incredible.

Many were unwilling to believe it, but the wormhole before them had indeed disappeared. No matter how they scanned, they could not detect its presence.

"What do you think caused the wormhole to be destroyed?" After a long silence, Stacker asked again.

"The wormhole couldn't have disappeared for no reason. If I'm not mistaken, it was destroyed by someone," Dr. Hermann immediately stated his view.

"Who did it? The United Nations?" Dr. Newton couldn't help asking.

Tendo Choi shook his head and said, "Obviously not. The United Nations doesn't have that kind of capability."

"Then who could it be?"

Dr. Hermann tapped the ground with his cane. "Obviously, it was them."

Dr. Newton was baffled, but Tendo Choi immediately caught on. "You mean the aliens who gave humanity high technology."

After all, high-tech like spaceships and positron cannons had suddenly appeared online, and now most people believed they were the work of aliens.

"Perhaps," Dr. Hermann said uncertainly.

Stacker said expressionlessly, "Return to base. Report this to the United Nations. Tell them the war is over."

Whoever had done it, since the wormhole had disappeared, it meant the monsters would no longer appear.

From this, one could conclude that the battle was over.

No matter what Stacker thought, that was the fact.

The people present exchanged silent glances and left the place with mixed feelings to report back.

...

On the other hand, three hours earlier.

When Wang Bo had just destroyed the wormhole and was returning to the stealth fighter.

As the savior who had rescued this world, Wang Bo's return was warmly welcomed by Diana.

Although the two had known each other for only a short time, they had clearly developed a bond of comradeship. Diana highly praised Wang Bo's actions. "Congratulations on saving this world. I'm very glad to have met you. Wang Bo, you are the best in my heart. You are a true hero."

Wang Bo naturally took the opportunity to be modest. "I'm also very glad to have met you, Diana. In my eyes, you are also a true hero. Coming to this world alone and standing up for humans who have nothing to do with you—your courage is ten times mine."

No one dislikes hearing nice words, and Diana was no exception.

This fledgling superhero was so flattered by Wang Bo's words that she couldn't hide the smile on her face.

After exchanging pleasantries, Diana looked straight at Wang Bo and said slowly, "Now, I should go back. I've stayed in this world long enough. I disappeared from Themyscira for no reason; perhaps I should return and face my mother."

Wang Bo nodded and said, "You're right."

He extended his right hand.

Diana took Wang Bo's hand without hesitation. "If you can come to my world, I will definitely treat you well. Themyscira will always welcome you."

"Thank you." Wang Bo first expressed his thanks, then communicated with his cheat device and sent Diana back.

In the blink of an eye, Diana disappeared before Wang Bo.

Then, Wang Bo turned his gaze to Shinonono Tabane. "Your turn."

Shinonono Tabane said, "Before I leave, can I ask you a few questions?"

"Go ahead."

"Since you could destroy the wormhole, why did you give humanity high technology like spaceships?" In Shinonono Tabane's view, this was completely unnecessary—like taking off pants to fart.

Wang Bo smiled slightly. "I think, with your intelligence, Shinonono Tabane, you should understand this."

"So, I guessed right. The Precursors will make a comeback, won't they?" If the wormhole was indeed created by the Precursors, then they could create a second, a third.

Destroying one wormhole was only a temporary fix.

"Yes." Wang Bo nodded and did not deny it. With Shinonono Tabane's intelligence, she should have thought of this long ago.

But neither of them had reminded Diana.

Wang Bo thought it was unnecessary.

As for Shinonono Tabane, it was because she didn't know when the Precursors would make a comeback—maybe ten years, maybe twenty years, who knew.
