Chapter 007: The Cathedral
获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第007章 大教堂
Carmine Falcone, the reigning kingpin of Gotham City's underworld, had nearly been brought down by an unknown woman, and it was only natural that he began to go mad.
Especially since this woman was powerful enough to easily trounce all the core thugs around him.
This made Carmine Falcone extremely alarmed. This time he was lucky and escaped disaster.
But what about next time? What if he really gets caught?
So he had to strike first, using every means to find this woman, kill her, and use her death to warn all those who dared to choose him.
With his command, the Falcone family members burst forth like rabid dogs from their cages.
They frantically searched for any trace of Spider-Gwen.
In addition, Carmine Falcone also made a special phone call to the commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department, hoping to use the police to find Spider-Gwen's whereabouts.
For a moment, the whole of Gotham City was stirred up.
Both the underworld and the legitimate world mobilized together to capture a single person.
Yet a day passed, two days passed, a week passed.
Spider-Gwen had vanished as if she had evaporated into thin air; neither the underworld nor the legitimate world could find any trace of her.
At noon today, Wang Bo drove a car around the streets, eating a hot dog he had just bought at the street corner, his gaze aimlessly sweeping over the pedestrians on the street.
Like the rest of the Falcone family, he was searching for Spider-Gwen's whereabouts.
People like him were almost everywhere in Gotham City.
But even so, finding Spider-Gwen was no easy task.
After all, when Spider-Gwen attacked Carmine Falcone back then, she was wearing her spider suit and mask. No one even knew what she looked like under the mask, so how could they possibly find Spider-Gwen?
Wang Bo just chuckled.
Unless Spider-Gwen showed herself, if she was determined to hide, finding her in a populous city like Gotham would be an absolute fantasy.
So Wang Bo didn't hold out any hope at all.
He was just making his routine rounds on the streets every day.
Today he drove his car to the old district of Gotham, where the Gotham Police Headquarters was located. Wang Bo had just passed by the police headquarters while driving.
The building itself was indeed quite majestic.
This building itself has always been a target of attack by Gotham's destroyers, criminals, and supervillains.
Yet it was always restored, rebuilt, and renovated amid constant destruction and devastation, continuing to uphold the law and guard justice in this city rife with crime and corruption.
But that was after Batman appeared and Commissioner Gordon took power.
Now, Bruce Wayne has not yet returned, Batman has not yet appeared, and James Gordon is nothing more than an ordinary policeman.
The Gotham City Police Department at this time was no place of justice.
Even Gotham City was deeply controlled by politicians, gangsters, criminals, and drug lords, let alone the Gotham Police Department. Basically all the police there had been bought off, each one openly accepting bribes.
The police in Gotham City were in cahoots with the criminals, practically sharing the same trousers. Many officers, upon seeing Wang Bo drive by, instead of questioning him sternly, greeted him with a smile.
This is truly remarkable.
Probably only in Gotham City, where the folk are simple and honest, could such a thing happen.
Wang Bo drove all the way to the cathedral square in the old city, the square where the main church of Gotham City—the cathedral—stood.
The cathedral once attempted to become the spiritual center of Gotham City, its stone gargoyles and morning bells on the tower overlooking all of Gotham; the cathedral's original design concept was to ward off evil.
Upon its completion, the cathedral once overshadowed all other buildings in Gotham City.
Wang Bo had nothing to do today, so he came to the cathedral for a stroll.
He parked his car near the square, entered the cathedral on foot, and climbed all the way up until he finally reached the top of the cathedral.
Standing beneath the morning bell, Wang Bo gazed into the distance, and for a moment the entire city of Gotham came into view.
Even in the daytime, this city still seemed so cold and gloomy, as if even the sunlight was blocked by an invisible haze, never fully spilling onto the city.
Within this seemingly luxurious metropolis, no one knows how much sin is hidden. Even in broad daylight, such sin continues to occur unabated.
With Wang Bo's eyesight, standing under the morning bell, he could clearly see several streets near the church.
On one of those streets, a robbery was taking place.
A burly man with a pistol rushed into a gold shop, and after a short while, he smoothly ran out carrying a backpack.
Wang Bo was certain that his backpack was filled with gold jewelry.
Then, the burly man mounted a motorcycle and attempted to flee.
But just then, a white object suddenly shot out from one side, hitting the burly man's shoulder, and the immense force sent him flying.
The next second, the white mass spread out, turning into a spider web that plastered the burly man against the wall.
Wang Bo saw this and frowned.
No way, since the web is here, that would mean...
Wang Bo quickly turned his head, and sure enough, on the roof of a building, he spotted the young lady in the white spider suit... Spider-Gwen!
Holy shit, my luck is just too good.
The person others had searched for half a day without finding—he found after just one turn around?
However, Wang Bo quickly averted his gaze from Spider-Gwen, as he hadn't forgotten that today he was stealing a moment of leisure to travel, not to capture Spider-Gwen.
Even if Spider-Gwen appeared before him, what did that have to do with him?
After all, he was only forced to stay in the Falcone family, not willingly remaining in this mafia family to aid the evildoers.
Whether it was Spider-Gwen or Carmine Falcone, neither had anything to do with Wang Bo.
All he wanted now was to live his own quiet life in peace.
Taking advantage of Spider-Gwen not noticing him, Wang Bo turned and left. After all, he had already seen the scenery he wanted to see. It was best to leave now to avoid unnecessary trouble.
However, as Wang Bo had just descended the stairs and was walking toward the entrance of the cathedral, the cathedral doors suddenly closed on their own.
A white figure descended from the sky, landing in front of Wang Bo, blocking his path.
Spider-Gwen!
She had still found Wang Bo, and cleared the cathedral of people, closed its doors, and trapped him like a turtle in a jar.
Wang Bo raised his hands without hesitation.
“I surrender!”
