Chapter 027: Machine

Wang Bo looked up, gazing at the cloudless sky.
Though the sky was a brilliant blue, like a bright and dazzling sapphire, with no sign of anything unusual, as if the attack just now had never occurred.
But through the sky, Wang Bo saw a Kryptonian mothership outside the atmosphere.
The beam of light that had descended from the sky was clearly the mothership's main cannon.
The enemy had been monitoring every move in the great desert from above the atmosphere, and when they saw that Zod and Faora had lost, they seized the opportunity to ambush Wang Bo, firing a main cannon blast at him.
The main cannon of the Kryptonian mothership was extremely powerful; even if it couldn't pierce a planet, its power was definitely more terrifying than a nuclear bomb.
If Wang Bo's body hadn't been so tough, that main cannon blast might have shattered him into pieces.
But this could not be called Wang Bo's victory.
To survive the attack from the Kryptonian mothership's main cannon, Wang Bo had expended almost all his strength. Now he was nearly drained—his magic exhausted, his Nine Yang True Qi depleted, his Cosmo at rock bottom...
Only the Ripple, accompanying Wang Bo's breathing, continued to generate endlessly, nourishing his exhausted body.
If he were given just ten or twenty minutes, Wang Bo was confident he could recover to his peak.
But unfortunately, time waited for no one.
The sound of footsteps crunching came, and Wang Bo turned to see Faora supporting Zod as they walked back.
Faora, who should have been severely injured, had recovered while Wang Bo fought Zod and was fully capable of rejoining the battle. Originally, she had planned to join General Zod in a pincer attack on Wang Bo.
But now, it was no longer necessary.
Zod pushed aside Faora, who was supporting him, walked over, and sat down beside Wang Bo. "You're a Kryptonian, aren't you."
Faora was startled and exclaimed in disbelief, "General?"
Zod said, "I sensed it during our fight. You're a Kryptonian. You have Kryptonian blood."
Wang Bo looked at Zod in surprise. He had thought Zod would kill him, but instead, the man wanted to chat. What did this mean?
Still, Wang Bo didn't mind and said, "I'm not a Kryptonian; I'm an Earthling. But as an envoy of the multiverse gods, I was sent to bring your group—drifters from other universes—home. I was given a few initial abilities, one of which is Superman's Man of Steel physique."
"Superman?" Zod frowned.
Wang Bo said, "Superman is Clark Kent, the Kal-El you mentioned. On Earth, he's called Superman. My abilities come from him."
Zod said, "Your abilities come from Kal-El. You're a Kryptonian, no mistake. You should join us and help us rebuild Krypton."
Wang Bo suddenly understood. Now he realized why Zod hadn't killed him but instead started talking. "So that's it. You're trying to recruit me."
Zod said discontentedly, "This isn't recruitment. Since you're a Kryptonian, you have a duty to contribute to rebuilding Krypton."
Wang Bo chuckled lightly and said, "I told you, though I have Superman's abilities, I'm not a Kryptonian. I'm an Earthling."
Seeing Wang Bo's obstinacy, Zod grew angry. He grabbed Wang Bo by the neck and gradually tightened his grip. "Aren't you afraid of death?"
Wang Bo struggled to breathe but remained fearless. "Are you going to kill me? Do you realize that if you kill me, how will you return to your original universe? If you can't return and find Kal-El, how will you rebuild Krypton? Don't forget, the Codex is still in Kal-El's hands."
Zod's pupils contracted several times. He said slowly, "I don't know how many multiverses there are in this world. If what you say is true, then drifters like me are certainly not few."
"You're just one person. How can you handle so many drifters?"
"If I'm not mistaken, people like you are probably not rare."
"Even if I kill you, there will be a second, a third person like you. One day, I will return to my original universe and find Kal-El."
"So, I can give you one more chance. Join us."
He could certainly kill Wang Bo, but who knew when the next Wang Bo would appear? So Zod decided to give Wang Bo one last chance.
Wang Bo couldn't help but applaud, speaking with difficulty, "You're really something, Zod. You're right. People like me are countless in the multiverse. I don't even know how many there are. But do you think I'll yield? Don't dream. I won't join you. However, I'll allow you to join me."
Wang Bo's face grew redder, as he felt Zod's grip tightening.
But he didn't care and continued, "If you join my camp and become my subordinate, maybe in the future I can find another Earth in another universe for you to rebuild Krypton. How about my offer, Zod?"
Zod stared coldly at Wang Bo, then finally crushed Wang Bo's neck.
"Kryptonians never like to be someone's dog."
Faora looked at Wang Bo, now lifeless and thrown to the ground by Zod, and felt a pang of regret. Without Wang Bo, returning to their original universe would be very difficult.
Even if they conquered this planet, without the Codex, they couldn't reproduce.
"What do we do now, General?" Faora asked.
Zod pondered for a moment and said, "Proceed with the original plan. Conquer this planet, terraform it, and turn it into a second Krypton."
Faora said, "But we don't have the Codex. We can't..."
"Natural birth!" Zod interrupted Faora.
Faora was startled.
Zod stared hard at Faora and said, "Kal-El was a naturally born child. Without the Codex, we have to use this method to increase our population. You understand what I mean, Faora."
Faora's heart sank. Of course, she understood Zod's meaning.
Without the Codex, Krypton could not reproduce.
But if they adopted natural birth, someone would have to serve as a mother. Among the Kryptonian survivors, women were scarce—besides her, there were only a few.
If they really took this approach, from today onward, she would no longer be Zod's assistant.
She would be a breeding machine!
Faora had once sworn to follow Zod in changing Krypton, but she had never imagined she would one day be treated as a breeding machine.
Still, she did not refuse. Instead, she accepted the order.
"I understand, General! All for Krypton."
