Chapter 003: The Scorpion King

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第003章 蝎子王

Wang Bo sat on the sofa, holding black tea, his mind wandering, thinking about all sorts of irrelevant things.

Lina stood by Wang Bo's side, like his personal maid.

Time passed little by little in their silence.

After a while, Wang Bo came to his senses, turned to Lina, and said, "Go call Jonathan out. He's fine now."

Lina was taken aback, glanced suspiciously at the second floor, then nodded and walked lightly up the stairs to the master bedroom, knocking on the door.

Jonathan's voice came from inside the master bedroom. "What's happened?"

He knew well that unless something was up, the servants wouldn't disturb him at this hour.

Lina said, "Mr. Jonathan, a gentleman named Wang Bo is waiting for you downstairs."

Jonathan, with a blonde beauty in his arms, racked his brain: Wang Bo? Who's Wang Bo? The name sounds familiar.

But he quickly realized: Holy shit, Wang Bo, he's back?!!!

So he shouted, "Tell him to wait downstairs. I'll be right there."

Head maid Lina caught the anxiety and fear in Jonathan's voice, nodded, and reminded him, "Mr. Jonathan, actually Mr. Wang Bo arrived quite early and has been waiting for a while."

Then she heard a thud, as if someone had rolled off the bed onto the floor.

Three minutes later, Jonathan opened the door, disheveled.

Five minutes later, he came downstairs, saw Wang Bo, and couldn't help laughing loudly, spreading his arms as if for a warm hug. "Wang Bo, I knew it, I knew you'd come back."

Wang Bo gave Jonathan a look of disgust; he didn't want to hug a man who'd just been with a woman. So he waved his hand, and Jonathan was pulled by an invisible force, flying onto the sofa and sitting down.

Jonathan said in amazement, "You've become more and more mysterious over the years, just like my sister."

Wang Bo said, "Evelyn is the Keeper of the Dead, so naturally she's proficient in supernatural powers."

He hadn't forgotten how, after they got the Book of the Dead, they studied it day and night, mastering all its knowledge, and met the owner of the Book of the Dead in their dreams.

Anubis, the Egyptian god of death.

This deity wanted Wang Bo to become the Keeper of the Dead, his priest, but Wang Bo refused, so the god stripped him of all memories related to the Book of the Dead.

Evelyn, however, did not refuse and became the new Keeper of the Dead.

"Looks like you've been doing well these years, Jonathan."

"Thanks to you, not bad. Oh, Lina, please bring me a cup of black tea." Jonathan casually dismissed Lina.

Wang Bo looked at him with a half-smile. "I heard the owner of this estate has changed."

Jonathan quickly said, "Never, that's a rumor. You have to believe me, believe in our friendship, dear friend. You've always been the owner of the estate, never changed. I've just been managing it for you."

Wang Bo rolled his eyes. This guy was a typical smooth talker, reliable in critical moments but mostly unreliable.

But that was enough.

Many people couldn't even do that; most were reliable in ordinary times but fell apart when it mattered.

Compared to them, Jonathan was already excellent.

Besides, it was just an estate. Wang Bo wasn't angry. With his current wealth, he couldn't care less about this estate. Even giving it to Jonathan was fine.

"Alright, Jonathan, I'm not angry. Actually, I'm grateful that you've managed the estate all these years instead of selling it."

"Haha, my dear friend, what do you take me for? How could I sell your estate?" Jonathan couldn't help laughing loudly, but there was a hint of embarrassment in his laughter. In recent years, he'd almost run out of money and had indeed thought about selling the estate.

After all, Wang Bo hadn't returned for years; he thought the man wouldn't come back.

But his sister disagreed, so Jonathan never succeeded.

Now seeing Wang Bo suddenly return, he felt relieved that his sister had foresight. If Wang Bo came back and found the estate sold, who knows how he'd be dealt with.

He wasn't afraid Wang Bo would kill him, because during their adventures, they'd built a good friendship, and he knew Wang Bo wasn't that kind of person.

He wouldn't kill someone over an estate.

Wang Bo didn't use telepathy to read Jonathan's messy thoughts; instead, he said cheerfully, "By the way, Jonathan, how's Evelyn? Is she still at her estate? I was thinking of inviting her for dinner tonight. What do you think?"

Jonathan wasn't as excited as Wang Bo. "That's a good idea, but unfortunately, you might be disappointed, Wang Bo."

"Why?"

"Because my sister isn't in London at all."

"Not in London? Where did she go?"

Jonathan rolled his eyes. "The other day, she suddenly said she was the reincarnation of a pharaoh's daughter, and then that the ancient Scorpion King was about to awaken, so she had to stop it. Ever since she got the Book of the Dead, my sister has become all mystical. I don't even know what she's up to. The Book of the Dead is really a bad thing."

Wang Bo caught the complaint in Jonathan's tone but didn't comfort him. Instead, he thought: if he remembered correctly, the plot of The Mummy Returns took place eight years after the first film.

And he had left this world exactly eight years ago.

That meant the second movie's plot was indeed about to begin.

And the Scorpion King, the Scorpion King, was about to return. Once resurrected, commanding Anubis's army, he could surely sweep the world.

That was an undead legion.

Comparable to the Dragon Emperor's terracotta army.

With current technology, it would be too difficult to fight such an undead legion.

He looked at Jonathan and said, "So, Jonathan, do you know where Evelyn is now?"

Jonathan said in surprise, "Don't tell me you also believe the Scorpion King will resurrect. Come on, that's just a legend."

"Do you really think it's just a legend?" Wang Bo countered.

"At least there's no proof the Scorpion King ever existed, right?" Jonathan said.
