Chapter 004: Seeking Advice

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第004章 请教

The old cowboy before Wang Bo was Carter Slade, the previous Ghost Rider, a turncoat who had betrayed Mephisto and fled with the Covenant of St. Vangance.

Yet it was precisely because of his decision that Mephisto's power had not swelled further.

"Young man, do I know you?"

The old cowboy's gaze was as sharp as a knife, piercing the skin painfully. Since he had taken refuge in St. Michael's Church, over a hundred years had passed.

In that long span of time, his relatives and acquaintances had withered away one by one.

Even the name Carter Slade had been buried by his own hands.

No one in this world should know him, but where had this mysterious man before him come from? Why did he know him? What was his relationship with the demon?

At the thought of the demon, the old cowboy suddenly caught a whiff of demonic aura from Wang Bo.

"Are you Mephisto's minion? How can you enter the church?!"

The old cowboy was on high alert.

Wang Bo was taken aback, then realized that he still carried Spartan blood within him, and Spartans were pure demons—demons more powerful than even the Devil himself.

Although Wang Bo had absorbed a vast amount of sunlight, his body brimming with solar power, and his Superman bloodline far surpassed the Spartan bloodline, the Spartan blood had not vanished; it was merely suppressed.

This was also why Wang Bo did not feel repulsed by the holy light, for his solar power was also of a sacred nature.

He had not expected that this trace of bloodline would be detected by the old cowboy.

Still, Wang Bo offered an explanation: "I have nothing to do with Mephisto, nor am I his minion."

The old cowboy's expression softened slightly, but he did not let down his guard. "Why are you looking for me?"

"The Covenant of St. Vangance," Wang Bo said bluntly.

The old cowboy sneered. "I knew it. You demons are all after the covenant. Get out of the church, or I will make you suffer eternal damnation!"

Within this church, he feared no demon.

Even if Mephisto came, he might not fare well—not because the church's power was great; in fact, the church was nothing in Mephisto's eyes.

What truly gave him confidence was the angel enshrined in this church.

St. Michael!

The chief warrior at God's side, supreme commander of the angelic host, the archangel of heaven, the embodiment of absolute justice, and also the renowned... the One Like God!

Should a demon cause trouble here and disturb this archangel, when the archangel cast his gaze downward, any demon would be reduced to ashes under that gaze, ceasing to exist.

Mephisto included.

Wang Bo naturally would not leave the church just because of the old cowboy's words. He was determined to obtain the Covenant of St. Vangance today. Since the old cowboy was unwilling to give it, Wang Bo would have to resort to force.

But to avoid disturbing the archangel Michael, Wang Bo could only play a little trick.

He used teleportation to send the old cowboy away, to the largest desert in the world!

The old cowboy was no longer the powerful Ghost Rider he once was. After betraying Mephisto and living in the church, his power had dwindled day by day.

As of today, he couldn't even manage to fight a single battle, infinitely close to an ordinary person.

With a single teleport, Wang Bo could have sent the old cowboy away.

But the shovel in his hand remained, falling straight down. Wang Bo reached out and caught the shovel just before it hit the ground, snapped the wooden handle in two, and retrieved the San Venganza contract from inside.

If he hadn't seen the plot, Wang Bo wouldn't have thought that such an important contract would be hidden by the old cowboy in a shovel he carried around.

This guy was too careless, really thinking demons didn't have X-ray vision.

But on second thought, since demons didn't even dare approach a church, hiding the contract in a shovel didn't seem so wrong.

After obtaining the contract, Wang Bo didn't leave the church, because he had written in his diary that tonight, he would meet the person he wanted to see in this church.

So Wang Bo simply stayed outside St. Michael's Church, enjoying the view with Hela.

But Hela had no time for sightseeing; she seemed very eager for the Ghost Rider, wanting to obtain his power. "Do you know where that guy named Johnny is now?"

Wang Bo said, "You're going after the Ghost Rider now? Not waiting any longer?"

Hela said lightly, "I can wait, but I need to keep track of his movements."

Wang Bo asked in surprise, "I thought you would have left some mark on him."

"I originally intended to do that," Hela said.

"What made you change your mind?"

"Mephisto," Hela said slowly. "When that guy named Johnny left, I saw the demon called Mephisto."

"You saw him?" Wang Bo was startled. He had been at the venue too but hadn't noticed any suspicious figures, including Mephisto.

Hela said, "He used magic to conceal himself, but he couldn't fool my eyes."

Wang Bo said helplessly, "You magic users are really devious."

Hela sneered, "The howl of a defeated dog."

Wang Bo: ...

"So, Mephisto also noticed me."

"Yes, his gaze lingered on you for a while." Hela nodded.

Wang Bo confirmed again that his current strength was still a notch below these legendary demons and gods; otherwise, he wouldn't have been completely unaware.

"Did he notice you too?" Wang Bo asked. Back at the venue, Hela had been standing with him.

"No," Hela said confidently. "If I don't want to be found, no one can find me, including that guy Mephisto."

Wang Bo believed that. Although Mephisto was indeed a Lord of Hell, he had a weakness: the longer he stayed away from Hell, the weaker he became.

So Mephisto rarely entered the mortal world in his true form, because it was easy to mess up; what entered the mortal world was basically his projection.

It didn't seem strange that this projection couldn't detect a hidden Hela.

But what frustrated Wang Bo was that he hadn't even detected a projection, which was hard to accept. These magic experts were not easy to deal with.

A simple trick could fool others completely. It seemed he would have to work on this aspect too.

Thinking this, Wang Bo couldn't help but look at Hela. She seemed to be a magic expert as well.
