Chapter 011: Sweeping the Castle

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第011章 扫荡古堡

Wang Bo accepted the quest, then took the butler and the head maid on a few more rounds through the capital of the Roya Empire, purchasing some supplies, armor, and weapons before setting out for the castle.

The castle was located in the outskirts, a two-hour ride even on horseback, so Wang Bo simply paid a teleportation fee.

In an instant, the three arrived at the outskirts, standing before the castle.

This castle was not much different from those of medieval Europe—all Gothic architecture—but because it had been neglected for a long time, it appeared exceptionally eerie and dilapidated.

Ivy covered the walls on all sides, the courtyard was piled with fallen leaves, and a flock of crows perched on withered branches, occasionally letting out harsh cries.

If the sky had been overcast with thunder and lightning, it would have looked like a ghost castle from an anime.

Wang Bo, clad in light armor and holding a sharp knight's sword, gave a light swing, cutting through the rusted chain on the iron gate, and pushed the door open to enter.

Malthus and Caroline followed closely behind.

One man and two demons stepped on the nearly rotten dead leaves, producing a crunching sound that echoed through the gloomy castle, carrying far into the distance.

Vaguely, Wang Bo sensed someone watching him.

He abruptly looked up; on a distant window of the castle, a pair of eyes seemed to lock onto Wang Bo's group. The moment their gazes met, the eyes suddenly vanished.

Wang Bo curled his lip. If he weren't bold and skilled, anyone else might have been startled.

This crappy game was pretty realistic.

Sword in hand, Wang Bo strode forward, reached the castle, pushed open the door, and entered. Behind the door was a spacious hall. Interestingly, the hall was in shambles, littered with discarded junk.

Among the junk lay a large pile of green-skinned monsters snoring loudly. They were the beginner monsters that only appeared in fantasy novels... goblins!

Though goblins were just beginner monsters, there were quite a few of them. Wang Bo roughly counted at least fifty goblins in the hall.

If these goblins were awakened and swarmed the party, they could easily take down three to five adventurers.

And this was only the first floor of the castle.

To get through this floor, there were two methods.

One was to form a team of ten or more, fight together, and forcibly kill all the goblins present.

The other method was to tiptoe across, stepping over the goblins and onto empty spots, sneaking up to the second floor.

But these goblins lay scattered everywhere, limbs splayed, one next to another like a net spread across the area, leaving few places to step.

Some spots had room for only one foot. If you made a misstep, a goblin would shriek, and all the goblins would wake up and enter combat mode.

Wang Bo thought for a moment, then raised his sword and chopped off a goblin's head.

Before dying, the goblin let out a scream.

Instantly, all the goblins woke from their slumber. Seeing three uninvited guests in the hall, they roared and charged forward, wielding battered wooden shields and iron swords.

Goblins fear nothing!

Correspondingly, Wang Bo feared nothing either.

His reactions were fast, and his sword swings even faster. With a single slash, he decapitated a goblin, and several goblins that lunged at him were already dead.

Though Wang Bo couldn't use any supernatural powers in the game, his strength was formidable, his combat awareness far beyond ordinary people, and he had studied martial arts. Not just seven or eight goblins, even a dozen couldn't get close to him.

Wang Bo didn't take the fifty-plus goblins seriously. Given time, he could kill every goblin present by himself.

On the other hand, Malthus and Caroline were in a similar situation. Though they couldn't use magic, their awareness far exceeded ordinary people. The goblins' movements were full of holes in the eyes of the two demons.

They swung their knight swords and easily killed several goblins.

In less than a minute, all the goblins present were killed by Wang Bo's group.

After clearing the first floor, Wang Bo found a pale white knight sword among the goblin corpses. In quality, it was far superior to the sword Wang Bo held.

This should be the reward for clearing the first floor.

Wang Bo equipped the white knight sword. The item info told him it was the Pale Sword, a weapon with +3 attack.

Then, Wang Bo led Malthus and Caroline to the second floor.

The guardians of the second floor were a group of hobgoblins. Unlike the melee-only goblins, these could use bows, javelins, and other ranged weapons.

They were far more troublesome than the goblins on the first floor.

But even so, Wang Bo, along with his butler and head maid, killed all the hobgoblins as easily as cutting vegetables and obtained a fine bow.

Wang Bo casually tossed the bow to Caroline.

Caroline glanced at it, put away her sword, and equipped the bow.

On the third floor, the monsters were goblins again, but this time they weren't ordinary goblins—they were greater goblins. The name added the word 'greater,' but their strength was several times higher.

Purely from stats, the greater goblins' strength was not inferior to Wang Bo's.

But in technique, Wang Bo could crush these so-called greater goblins.

He stepped with mysterious footwork, moving forward and back, left and right, leaving wounds on the greater goblin with the Pale Sword, and finally killed it.

It took about a dozen seconds.

Wang Bo killed goblins with one sword stroke, but killing a greater goblin took a dozen seconds, which made him quite dissatisfied.

Fortunately, the greater goblin's death contributed several hundred experience points, allowing Wang Bo to level up.

After leveling up, Wang Bo's attack power increased, and he could kill a greater goblin in basically three strokes, which made him satisfied again.

Soon, after each killing a greater goblin, Malthus and Caroline also leveled up, their attack power growing stronger. The three swept through the third floor of the castle with irresistible force.

The clearance reward was a hammer.

Malthus unhesitatingly equipped the hammer.

The monsters lying in ambush on the fourth floor were hobgoblins again, but this group could use black powder. Though the black powder wasn't very powerful, it was enough to take down adventurers.

Wang Bo had read walkthroughs. Many adventurers, after barely defeating the greater goblins, ended up capsizing to the hobgoblins' black powder and losing the chance to continue the quest.

Wang Bo certainly wouldn't capsize. As he charged to the fourth floor, he hurled the Pale Sword with all his might.

Whoosh!
