Chapter 018: A Reminder
获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第018章 提醒
After learning the whole story, Wang Bo couldn't help but sigh. This woman was truly a piece of mud that wouldn't stick to the wall—no, to be precise, a salted fish.
With just a little effort, she could have achieved the status of a human leader.
But she gave it up simply because it was too much trouble.
Wang Bo didn't have the heart to criticize her, though. After all, she had said it herself: she was just a spy. Asking a spy to become the world president was too much.
Wang Bo rubbed his temples and plopped down onto the sofa.
Ada Wong asked curiously, "By the way, boss, is there something you came to see me about?"
Wang Bo said, "I came this time to get an update on the latest developments in this world. But now I'm fully informed."
Ada Wong let out an "oh" and said with relief, "I thought you were here to give me new orders, boss."
"What if I said I was?"
"Then I'd have to say goodbye to my long vacation."
"Don't worry, I don't have anything for you to do right now."
"That's great." Ada Wong didn't mind work, but she had just recently dismantled Umbrella Corporation and was looking forward to fully enjoying this break.
Wang Bo couldn't help asking, "Speaking of vacations, how do you plan to spend yours?"
He was quite curious about how a spy spent their vacation—was it different from ordinary people?
Ada Wong said, "As you can see, I practice yoga every day, enjoy the scenery, listen to music, relax, or play cards nearby, or simply think about nothing."
"Sounds like you're doing nothing."
"That's my vacation." Ada Wong spoke from experience. "After all, I was so busy recently. Now I just want to unwind completely."
Wang Bo thought for a moment and said, "Since you have nothing to do, come play games with me."
Games are always more fun with more people.
"Play games?" Ada Wong was taken aback. "What game do you want to play, boss?"
"Oasis."
Ada Wong had never heard of it. "Is it a game from another world?"
Wang Bo nodded. "It's a fully immersive virtual game. You can roam freely in the virtual world, enjoy the thrill of gaming, and relax at the same time."
Ada Wong's eyes lit up. She took a sip of red wine and said, "Sounds pretty good."
"It really is."
"Then let's give it a try." Ada Wong agreed readily.
Wang Bo said, "Alright, I'll go find Clark first. When I get back, you'll come with me."
"Of course." Ada Wong didn't refuse.
Wang Bo then chatted with Ada Wong for a bit, found out where Clark was, and vanished from Ada Wong's sight along with Malthus and Caroline.
Ada Wong looked enviously at the spot where Wang Bo had disappeared. For spies like her, such elusive skills were practically divine.
Meanwhile, after leaving Ada Wong, Wang Bo arrived in Shanghai.
Ever since Wang Bo had transferred the people from the world of Highschool of the Dead to this world, Shanghai had become the new world center.
Clark spent twenty-four hours a day in Shanghai.
He only left when someone called for him.
The tallest building in Shanghai, the Shanghai Tower, had become Clark's base of operations.
Wang Bo entered the most spacious office in the building and saw a dozen Clarks inside, each one reviewing documents, typing on keyboards, and working hard.
Sensing someone enter, all the Clarks looked up at Wang Bo simultaneously.
It was like a scene from a horror movie, enough to make one's scalp tingle.
After recognizing the visitor, the dozen Clarks disappeared one by one, leaving only one sitting at the desk, reviewing documents.
"Yo." Wang Bo raised a hand in greeting. "Am I interrupting?"
Clark looked up and asked, "Is there something you need?"
"Nothing much. I just came to see how you're doing here and if you want to go back to your world. But it looks like you're too busy to leave."
Wang Bo said with a smile.
Clark sighed. "Although the zombies here have been eliminated, there are still too many lingering problems. I really can't get away. And... and these people need me."
In the DC world, he was an alien, afraid to show his true self, worried about causing a lot of trouble.
So in the past, he had always suppressed himself, afraid of stirring up trouble.
But in this world, he didn't need to suppress himself. He could freely display his strength and uniqueness, which not only didn't cause trouble but made people admire him.
Thus, Clark felt needed and saw his value realized.
So he was unwilling to leave and wanted to help the people of this world.
Wang Bo understood this perfectly and said readily, "Since you want to stay, then stay and help these people. But I want to remind you of something, Clark."
"What?"
"Don't accommodate the people of this world too much. Don't spoil them. You can help them for a while, but not forever. Being too accommodating will only hurt you in the end, Clark."
Wang Bo knew human greed well.
If the people of this world came to take Clark's efforts for granted, then the problem would be serious. If Clark failed to do just one thing out of a hundred, people would immediately start complaining, even slandering him.
At that point, they would selectively forget the ninety-nine things Clark had done well.
That's just how this world works.
People are always too harsh on the good and too lenient on the bad.
Too harsh on the noble and too lenient on the mediocre.
Too harsh on heroes and too lenient on villains.
And Clark was undoubtedly a good man, a noble man, and a hero. His excellence surpassed ordinary people. If he became too outstanding, to the point where humans became highly dependent on him, it would inevitably lead to a series of problems.
That's why Wang Bo reminded Clark.
Clark was no ordinary person; he instantly grasped the meaning behind Wang Bo's words. He nodded and said, "Alright, I'll think about how to interact with people from now on."
"I'm glad you understand."
"Thank you." Clark said slowly.
"You're welcome." Wang Bo waved his hand. He just didn't want to see this saint give everything only to be condemned by humanity. That wasn't the ending a superhero deserved.
