Chapter 1086: Three-Part Deer

Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第1086章 三聚鹿

For Zhao Fusheng, being able to watch Fan Baobao grow was undoubtedly a very happy thing.

"What, am I wrong?"

Seeing Zhao Fusheng silent, Fan Baobao asked curiously. Although she hadn't paid much attention to this production, she had read the scripts for both the earlier stage play and the current TV series. In her view, while the show had a certain main theme that might come off as pretentious and empty, if you savored it carefully, it truly could impress.

"You're right, I was just distracted," Zhao Fusheng said with a smile to Fan Baobao.

As he spoke, he reached out and ruffled her hair affectionately. "You know, I didn't expect you to be able to judge a script's quality."

"Hey, I'm an actor too, you know," Fan Baobao muttered discontentedly.

Zhao Fusheng smiled and said nothing more.

Soon, filming wrapped up. The crew naturally had people to pack things away—that was the assistant director and stage manager's job. Zhao Fusheng and Fan Baobao followed Jiang Wen to leave the set by car.

"So, is filming a TV series different from a movie?" Zhao Fusheng asked Jiang Wen with a smile from inside the car.

Jiang Wen shot him a glare. "You have the nerve to ask? If it weren't for you, would I be suffering this much?"

Zhao Fusheng gave an awkward smile, knowing full well that Old Jiang was full of resentment. A renowned director and actor of Jiang Wen's caliber, dragged by Zhao Fusheng to this remote northwest to shoot a TV series—if it weren't for their close friendship, anyone else making such a request would have been cursed out the door.

But Zhao Fusheng also knew Jiang Wen was just venting. Given their relationship, Jiang Wen couldn't stand by in this situation.

"By the way, how did your trip abroad go?" Jiang Wen asked from the car.

Zhao Fusheng smiled. "You actually care about me?"

"Care about your head," Jiang Wen retorted. "I'm just asking. You should know your own limits."

Zhao Fusheng laughed heartily, not bothered by Jiang Wen's words, and instead asked about Zhou Yun's condition, since she was pregnant.

Mentioning his pregnant wife, Jiang Wen's face beamed with happiness, looking utterly content.

Zhao Fusheng was speechless. All he could do was sigh that a gentle bed was a hero's grave.

Back at the hotel, Zhao Fusheng was about to take Fan Baobao to rest when Jiang Wen stopped him.

"Something up?" Zhao Fusheng asked, puzzled.

Jiang Wen nodded. "I'm quite interested in that script you mentioned earlier. Come on, let's talk."

Rolling his eyes, Zhao Fusheng looked at Jiang Wen helplessly. "Bro, look at the situation. It's late, I've been with my girlfriend on set all day, and now I finally get a break. You want me to leave my beautiful girlfriend to chat about a script? Old Jiang, aren't you afraid of lightning?"

Lightning?

Jiang Wen looked confused, then heard Zhao Fusheng say, "Destroying someone's romance brings divine retribution."

Fan Baobao burst out laughing. "You two go ahead and talk. I'll head back to shower and rest."

Zhao Fusheng was dumbfounded, as if struck by a million blows.

He never expected Fan Baobao to undermine him.

Was this a fake fiancée?

Jiang Wen naturally looked smug, his eyes teasing Zhao Fusheng as if to say, "Got you now."

With things having come this far, Zhao Fusheng had no choice but to obediently follow Jiang Wen to his room.

In Jiang Wen's room, Zhao Fusheng poured himself a glass of water, sat on the sofa, and said, "Spill it. What's the real issue?"

He wasn't stupid. If it were just about the script, Jiang Wen wouldn't be so eager. Clearly, there was something else to discuss, and the script was just an excuse.

Jiang Wen pursed his lips. "Can't you be a little less clever?"

Zhao Fusheng laughed and shrugged. "Can't help it. Born this way. Sometimes I wish I were dumber, but no luck."

Jiang Wen was beyond complaining about his narcissism—after all, the guy had the credentials.

"I just don't get it. What are you and Ye Jing thinking?" Jiang Wen looked at Zhao Fusheng seriously. "You're both my friends. Honestly, I used to worry you'd get the short end, but now I know your strength. Instead, I'm proud to have such a wealthy friend."

Zhao Fusheng understood. Ye Jing wasn't just a dabbler in the film industry; he had family connections, representing official ties.

Jiang Wen's concern was simple: he feared Zhao Fusheng would be taken advantage of.

Zhao Fusheng got it. He smiled sincerely at Jiang Wen. "Old Jiang, I appreciate it, but I hope you can relax. My cooperation with Ye Jing doesn't involve his backers—at most, it's just borrowing influence."

He meant it. For Zhao Fusheng, the rapid accumulation of wealth without a solid support base was his biggest problem.

Bringing Ye Jing in was only to make the company's film and TV production smoother, since Ye Jing had connections.

As for Jiang Wen's worries, they simply wouldn't happen.

Because Zhao Fusheng knew Ye Jing didn't have the background to take over his company.

Ye Jing knew that too, which was why he rushed from the capital to the northwest upon receiving Zhao Fusheng's invitation.

"You mean you want someone out front?" Jiang Wen thought for a moment and said.

Zhao Fusheng nodded. "Something like that."

In fact, his goal was simple: he wanted Ye Jing to become a shield for Future Films.

He believed Ye Jing could see that too—after all, smart people knew what each wanted and needed.

Jiang Wen nodded thoughtfully and said no more.

He loved film and was a kind person, not wanting his two friends to fall out over this. Since Zhao Fusheng gave him that assurance, Jiang Wen knew he could only meddle this far.

The rest was up to Zhao Fusheng and Ye Jing to work out themselves.

Of course, Ye Jing might bring in others, but that was beyond Jiang Wen's control.

Sometimes, people need self-awareness. It's best not to interfere too much in matters beyond one's ability—not just because of capability, but because the complex inner workings are beyond an outsider's grasp.

At the very least, Jiang Wen knew he couldn't understand the games at Zhao Fusheng's level.

"Alright, stop worrying. Just focus on your film," Zhao Fusheng said, seeing Jiang Wen's expression. "Everyone has their own path. Ye Jing and I are different from you. In business, as long as there's profit, we can sit down and talk. But you—if a film doesn't satisfy you, would you let it be released?"

"Of course not!"

Old Jiang's eyes widened. "Film and business are the same? Film..."

"Fine, fine, I know. Film is a serious art," Zhao Fusheng waved his hand helplessly, cutting him off. "I was just making an analogy. No need to get so worked up."

Then Zhao Fusheng looked at Jiang Wen. "Be prepared. After we finish shooting 'Soldiers Assault,' I'll draft the outline for you. You'll have to refine the details with your team."

Jiang Wen was taken aback by the sudden shift from discussing Ye Jing to the script.

He nodded. "No problem. I wasn't planning to work much in the second half of the year anyway, since Zhou Yun is due soon."

Zhao Fusheng snorted. "As the godfather, I think you should focus on earning more milk money."

Jiang Wen laughed heartily. "No need to worry about milk money. Your Fan Baobao said she'd cover the baby's milk."

Zhao Fusheng was speechless, silently cursing his spendthrift woman, then remembered something and said seriously to Jiang Wen, "Speaking of which, remember to buy formula from abroad after the baby is born. Don't buy those so-called big domestic brands, got it?"

Jiang Wen was taken aback. "Aren't domestic and foreign brands about the same? I don't see much difference. Brands like Sanlu are pretty good."

As an expectant father, Jiang Wen had already started looking into baby products like formula.

Hearing the name, Zhao Fusheng sneered. "You'd better listen to me. Otherwise, I can't guarantee what might happen."

At these words, the relaxed expression on Jiang Wen's face vanished. He wasn't stupid—he could tell Zhao Fusheng was implying something.

Could there really be something wrong with domestic formula?
