Chapter 1468: The Script
Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第1468章 剧本
Fan Baobao's due date was at the end of the year, so Zhao Fusheng had been quite idle lately.
He knew, of course, that his behavior was somewhat inadequate. After all, most bosses spent most of their time focused on company matters, but here he was, idle most of the time.
Yet Zhao Fusheng didn't think he was wrong.
Everyone has the right to choose their own way of life, and so did he.
Wasn't the purpose of working hard to make money simply to do what you loved?
If he slaved away to earn money, only to become a jet-setting businessman constantly flying around for deals, without even time for his family, then Zhao Fusheng felt that all his struggles since his rebirth would have been meaningless.
“Beibei, how about I take you to the amusement park today?”
Zhao Fusheng said to Fan Beibei with interest.
Since it was summer vacation, the little girl had plenty of time. She spent her days circling around Fan Baobao's belly at home. Afraid she might bump into Fan Baobao, Zhao Fusheng decided to take her to the amusement park.
Fan Beibei was quite happy about this and nodded eagerly: “Great, great!”
At her age, she loved to play. Even if Zhao Fusheng took her to the park in the neighborhood, she would nod happily.
Since it was a personal matter, Zhao Fusheng didn't call Wu Sijie, only had Hu Donghai and the others accompany him.
They spent the morning at the amusement park and had lunch with the little girl at a Western restaurant. Just as Zhao Fusheng was about to head home, he received a call from the company.
“Chairman, news from Hong Kong. There's a script, and they want to collaborate with us,” Wu Sijie stated the purpose directly over the phone.
A script?
Zhao Fusheng was taken aback for a moment, then laughed: “For a script, Ye Jing should be able to decide. Why call me?”
“Well, the lead actor for the film is confirmed to be Brother Long…” Wu Sijie explained to Zhao Fusheng.
Jackie Chan?
Zhao Fusheng was somewhat surprised.
But then he remembered that Jackie Chan was indeed on good terms with Boss Yang at this time. More accurately, this big shot had decent relationships with most film companies in Hong Kong.
That was a skill in itself.
Since they could get Jackie Chan to star, it must be a big-budget production. Gu Zai was quite lucky this time.
“Have you read the script?” Zhao Fusheng asked Wu Sijie casually.
Wu Sijie nodded: “I have. It's pretty good, very interesting.”
“Is that so?”
Zhao Fusheng smiled: “Even a layman like you finds it interesting, so the story must be engaging. Alright, bring the script back later, and I'll take a look.”
“Sure, Chairman.” Wu Sijie quickly agreed.
“Brother, what's a script?”
As Zhao Fusheng hung up, he heard Fan Beibei's curious voice from behind: “Sister has those too.”
After all, Fan Baobao was an actress, so people naturally sent her scripts. It was normal for Fan Beibei to have seen them.
But Zhao Fusheng didn't expect the little girl to be interested in such things.
“A script is for acting.” Bending down, he kissed his sister-in-law on the cheek and smiled: “Beibei, do you like acting?”
“What's acting?”
Fan Beibei, too young to understand Zhao Fusheng's words, blinked and asked: “Is it like sister, being on TV?”
Fan Baobao had made cameo appearances in TV dramas before. Occasionally, Fan Beibei would see her sister on TV and find it amazing.
The first time she saw it, she even cried, thinking a monster in the TV had taken her sister away.
“Sort of.”
Zhao Fusheng smiled and nodded, not bothering to explain the difference between movies and TV shows to her.
“Hmm, are there really no monsters in the TV?”
The little girl looked at Zhao Fusheng suspiciously, her face full of disbelief.
“Don't worry. Look at your sister—she wasn't taken away by a monster,” Zhao Fusheng explained helplessly.
“That's true.”
Fan Beibei nodded seriously.
Clearly, in the little girl's mind, the fact that her sister hadn't been taken by a monster was very important.
“Good girl!” Zhao Fusheng ruffled her hair and straightened up: “If you get a chance, if you like performing, let your sister take you to play at acting. If not, just go watch the fun. Okay?”
To Zhao Fusheng, Fan Beibei was his little sweetheart. He couldn't refuse any of her requests.
“Okay.”
Fan Beibei nodded vigorously. She always believed everything Zhao Fusheng said.
…
…
When they got home, Fan Baobao was sitting on the sofa watching TV. On the coffee table were fruits prepared by Zhao's mother. The two of them laughed and chatted whenever they saw something amusing.
“What are you talking about?”
Seeing them in good spirits, Zhao Fusheng smiled and asked.
“Nothing much. Mom and I were just chatting about some stuff on set.” Fan Baobao looked up at Zhao Fusheng: “Why are you two back so early?”
She meant it. Usually, whenever Zhao Fusheng took Fan Beibei out, they wouldn't come home until evening. Occasionally, they'd play outside all day and only return after dinner.
But today, they were back in the afternoon.
If not for Fan Beibei's cheerful mood, she might have thought the little girl was upset with Zhao Fusheng.
Though that possibility was almost zero.
Zhao Fusheng laughed and replied: “Wu Sijie is bringing a script for me to look at.”
A script?
Fan Baobao was also startled. She hadn't expected Zhao Fusheng to come home to read a script.
“What's going on?”
Fan Baobao asked Zhao Fusheng in surprise: “Why is a script being sent to you? Who asked for it?”
In her understanding, under normal circumstances, scripts received by Future Films could be decided upon by Ye Jing, the general manager.
Scripts that reached Zhao Fusheng were either particularly important big productions or ones sent through connections.
Just like with Yu Nan and Wang Quanan back then—if not for Jiang Wen's recommendation, Ye Jing wouldn't have met them. Naturally, Zhao Fusheng wouldn't have gotten involved either.
After all, China is a complex society of personal connections, unavoidable even for Zhao Fusheng.
If he truly only hired based on merit, many people around him would actually be unqualified.
