Chapter 1540: Encounter at the Prenatal Checkup
Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第1540章 产检偶遇
The winter in the capital was extremely cold, and the day of Fan Baobao's delivery was drawing nearer.
Zhao Fusheng simply stopped going out and handled company matters via email at home.
Earlier, his mother had mentioned buying a new house, so Zhao Fusheng instructed Wu Sijie to look for one. Because the family was growing, Wu Sijie focused on houses that were ready to move into.
It had to be said that Zhao Fusheng's assistant was quite capable; he quickly found a house near Wangjing.
It was a duplex villa with its own courtyard, spacious enough for Zhao Fusheng's family.
According to Zhao Fusheng's plan, after the child was born, Fan Baobao, his parents, his mother-in-law, and Fan Beibei could move there.
As for himself, he would commute between the city and the villa.
Although he wanted to stay home with his family, Zhao Fusheng understood that for a man, family and career were equally important. For family happiness, career success was essential.
Since Fan Baobao was about to give birth, she needed frequent prenatal checkups at the hospital.
Originally, Zhao Fusheng planned to have a doctor come to the house, but his mother and Li Yuan, who had rushed over, refused, as the hospital had more testing equipment and could provide more thorough examinations.
Even so, Zhao Fusheng was uneasy and arranged for a large number of bodyguards to accompany them to the checkup.
"Isn't this too much trouble?"
Sitting in the car, looking at the twenty or so bodyguards around, Fan Baobao said helplessly to Zhao Fusheng.
Zhao Fusheng smiled but said nothing.
His mother interjected, "Just listen to him. Safety comes first now."
Fan Baobao nodded helplessly and said no more.
The hospital for the checkup was chosen by Zhao Fusheng's people and was considered a good one in the capital.
The large group entering the hospital drew many glances, as it was clearly the entourage of an important person—a rare sight in the hospital.
"Isn't this too flashy?" Fan Baobao, supported by Zhao Fusheng, noticed people staring and whispered.
Zhao Fusheng smiled. "It's fine. You're wearing a mask, so no one recognizes you. Besides, you're the most important person now; being a bit flashy doesn't matter."
This wasn't a joke. Not only did Zhao Fusheng care deeply about Fan Baobao and the child in her womb, but the three elderly family members also valued the child immensely.
Zhao Fusheng's father had even set aside his business in Ninghai and come specifically to await the child's birth.
At the obstetrics and gynecology department, there were many people waiting in line. Zhao Fusheng stood there, noticing that most of those waiting were women, with few men, who waited at a distance.
Moreover, his own family seemed to have a slightly larger entourage.
"Why don't you go take a walk?" Fan Baobao laughed, seeing Zhao Fusheng at a loss.
To be honest, she felt Zhao Fusheng didn't need to be there in person. With his mother, father, and her own mother—three elders—that was enough. Zhao Fusheng's presence was just a gesture.
"Alright."
Looking around, Zhao Fusheng nodded and walked out with Hu Donghai and the others.
"You go out too."
Zhao's mother looked around and gave the order to Zhao's father.
Startled, Zhao's father asked, "Me?"
As he spoke, he pointed at himself.
Zhao's mother nodded matter-of-factly. "Of course, you. Look around—all women. Is it appropriate for you, a man, to stand here?"
Zhao's father was speechless. He shrugged and walked out.
Downstairs, he saw Zhao Fusheng standing there and walked over.
"Kicked out too?"
Zhao Fusheng smiled and asked his father.
Glaring at his son, Zhao's father said irritably, "You little brat, are you that happy to see your dad embarrassed?"
Zhao Fusheng chuckled but said nothing.
Just then, several people walked in through the hospital entrance. In the middle was a woman, flanked by bodyguards in black suits and two others in casual wear.
"Zhou Bing?"
Zhao Fusheng muttered in surprise, his voice low.
"Who?"
Father Zhao, puzzled, asked upon hearing Zhao Fusheng's words.
"An actress."
Zhao Fusheng smiled and explained softly to his father: "Don't you think she looks familiar?"
Father Zhao was taken aback. He carefully studied the woman in sunglasses, then frowned slightly: "She does look a bit familiar. Has she been in TV dramas? And on the Spring Festival Gala, right?"
For a man his age, recognizing her at all meant he had some impression of Zhou Bing.
Zhao Fusheng nodded with a smile: "Yeah, she's been on the Gala several times, but it seems she's never really become famous."
That was true. Zhou Bing was a peculiar presence in the industry. She had performed solo on the Spring Festival Gala multiple times, a major slot, and had starred in numerous TV dramas, often as the lead. Yet she remained neither hot nor cold.
Maybe it was just fate.
Zhao Fusheng had no connection with Zhou Bing and wasn't familiar with her, so he didn't go over to greet her. He just watched her enter the emergency room.
"Say, in a big city like the capital, are the chances of running into celebrities higher?"
Father Zhao remarked casually, watching Zhou Bing's retreating figure.
Since the father and son had nothing else to do, they might as well chat.
Zhao Fusheng nodded: "Of course. Think about it—this is the capital. Elsewhere it's different, but if you go to Sanlitun at night, you might bump into a big star every now and then."
He paused and laughed: "Of course, those are stars popular with us young people. The ones you like, you'd probably have to go to a golf course or some private club to meet."
That was true. People of Chen Dao and Jiang Wen's generation rarely frequented entertainment venues. Their leisure activities mostly involved gathering with friends for a meal, then bowling or golfing.
You'd never find these middle-aged folks in places like bars.
Father Zhao shot his son a glare, choosing to ignore the jab about his age.
This little 'conflict' between father and son wasn't something Father Zhao would dwell on. After all, his son was about to become a father himself—he couldn't just grab him and spank him like when he was a kid. At least he'd wait for the right opportunity to teach him a lesson.
Zhao Fusheng, of course, had no idea his father had already resolved to discipline him when the chance arose. He just felt a vague unease and glanced at his father, sensing something odd.
"After the baby is born, let your mother and your mother-in-law stay here," Father Zhao said after some thought.
Zhao Fusheng was startled: "That's not necessary. Baobao can take care of the child."
"Take care of what?"
Father Zhao shook his head, not giving his son a chance to argue: "You and she will both be busy with work. The child is too young; you won't have time. Your mother and I have discussed it—before the child turns two, she and your mother-in-law will take turns looking after him."
Parents always think of their children. Zhao Fusheng felt a warmth in his heart and nodded: "Alright. When the child is older, we'll send him to you and Mom."
That was his plan. After all, he and Fan Baobao would be busy, so it was better to leave the child in the care of the grandparents.
Father Zhao nodded, naturally approving of Zhao Fusheng's decision.
They say grandparents dote on grandchildren—that saying holds true.
"By the way, how's the company lately?" Zhao Fusheng suddenly remembered something and asked his father.
With more and more things going on at his own company, he hadn't had time to check on his father's side, hence the question.
Father Zhao smiled: "Don't worry, you little brat. Your old man may not be as impressive as you, but I'm no fool either."
He understood his son's concern perfectly. But as he said, Wanda was already on track, with little to worry about. It might not reach the scale of the future group, but relatively speaking, it was doing quite well.
As the father and son were talking, a sudden commotion came from the emergency room not far away.
"What's going on?"
Zhao Fusheng frowned, puzzled.
