Chapter 0547: The Clever Fan Baobao
Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第0547章 机智的范宝宝
Without the slightest awareness of corrupting a child, Zhao Fusheng hugged Fan Beibei and settled onto the sofa, giving Fan Baobao a fawning smile. “Want some fruit?”
“No,” Fan Baobao said crossly.
“Sister’s not good. Bananas are so tasty.” Fan Beibei glared at her sister, clearly dissatisfied with her lack of cooperation.
“Huh?”
Fan Baobao looked bewildered, completely clueless about what Zhao Fusheng meant.
Then Zhao Fusheng picked up a banana and handed it to Fan Baobao, giving her a meaningful smile and a wink.
Fan Baobao froze, then suddenly caught on. She felt awful, her face changed color, and with a dry heave, she dashed straight to the bathroom.
“?”
Fan Beibei stared blankly at her sister’s back, utterly baffled.
Zhao Fusheng snickered slyly. For the first time in his life, he realized that bullying Fan Baobao was such a satisfying thing.
“No wonder she likes to bully me—bullying others really does feel great,” Zhao Fusheng muttered to himself. In his mind, he looked forward even more to the final night he would spend with Fan Baobao.
People are always like this: when they can’t have something, they don’t care at all, but once they get it, they become addicted.
That was Zhao Fusheng. He was like parched land finally receiving rain, desperately craving moisture.
Fan Baobao soon returned from the bathroom, shot Zhao Fusheng a glare, and made a fierce gesture at him.
She wasn’t stupid. After mulling over Fan Beibei’s words, she knew that Zhao Fusheng must have taught her sister that.
Seeing Fan Baobao’s expression, Zhao Fusheng chuckled and stopped teasing her.
Dinner was very pleasant. Since Fan Baobao was taking the train back to Beijing tomorrow afternoon, the whole family revolved around her. Even Zhao’s mom and dad kept telling her not to worry about home, to spend money freely at school, and to buy whatever she needed.
“Mom, don’t worry. I’m making money from commercials now,” Fan Baobao said to the elders.
She could earn a few thousand yuan from each commercial, making her a little rich girl among students.
“What you earn is yours; what we give you is ours.” Zhao’s mom shot Fan Baobao a look and said.
Fan Baobao grinned. “Mm, I know.”
She no longer worried so much about how much she owed Zhao Fusheng’s family. She was his now, so what difference did it make?
Zhao Fusheng watched her chat with the elders, holding Fan Beibei and focusing on his TV show.
From start to finish, he trusted Fan Baobao completely.
Though the idea of time travel and rebirth was absurd, in Zhao Fusheng’s eyes, Fan Baobao was still the same Fan Baobao. Some people might forget the good others do for them—for such people, kindness is like a glass of water, drunk and gone. But the bad is like a seed, taking root and sprouting.
Fan Baobao wasn’t like that. She could forgive all the bad in someone because of a little good they did her. That was different from most people’s code of conduct.
Life gives us many trials, teaching us to accept and forgive.
For Zhao Fusheng, everything Fan Baobao did made him adore this girl.
When they left home, Zhao Fusheng and Fan Baobao walked side by side on the street. Suddenly, Fan Baobao said to him, “I put my bankbook under Mom’s pillow.”
Zhao Fusheng laughed. “Aren’t you afraid she’ll give it back to you tomorrow morning?”
Fan Baobao blinked. “I left a note. She probably won’t, right?”
“Who knows,” Zhao Fusheng shrugged.
At home, Zhao’s mom and dad looked at the bankbook and note under the pillow, a gratified smile spreading across their faces.
“Mom, this is money I saved from shooting commercials at school. When Fusheng and I get married, you can give it back to us.” The note on the bankbook was clearly in Fan Baobao’s handwriting.
“This kid, thinking so far ahead.” Zhao’s mom sniffled and said to Zhao’s dad.
Zhao’s dad nodded. “Keep it. It’s fine for the child’s money to stay with you. Go tell Li Yuan.”
Leaving the elders’ satisfaction aside, Zhao Fusheng and Fan Baobao took the car back to the villa. Fan Baobao plopped down on the sofa to watch a TV drama, refusing to shower or sleep.
Zhao Fusheng blinked. “Go ahead and watch. I’ll go upstairs to take care of some things.”
Fan Baobao nodded repeatedly. “Go on, go on. Don’t work too hard.”
After Zhao Fusheng went upstairs, she let out a long breath, patted her nonexistent chest, and looked relieved. Then a smug expression crossed her face. “Small as it is, you still can’t bear to…”
In truth, the whole man-woman thing isn’t that interesting when you get down to it. But regardless, men and women are the same: if you’re sure you like someone and want to be together long-term, it’s impossible not to have thoughts, not to be curious, not to desire. Unless it’s a gay guy meeting a lesbian.
Of course Zhao Fusheng wanted to, but with parting imminent, he wasn’t some idiot ruled by his libido, so he wouldn’t do anything to spoil the mood.
So after finishing his work and coming downstairs, nothing happened between them. They just leaned together and chatted—about the past, about the future, about Fan Baobao and Zhao Fusheng themselves.
“Don’t worry. In a few years, when Mom and Dad are older, I’ll stop acting and come back to help you take care of the family,” Fan Baobao said seriously to Zhao Fusheng.
Zhao Fusheng was taken aback. “What if you become a big star?”
“Even a big star has to get married. Big stars aren’t immortals; I still need to eat and sleep,” Fan Baobao said matter-of-factly.
Her mindset was now different from what Zhao Fusheng had originally known. In the past, she was dead set on becoming a star to make money. But now that she and Zhao Fusheng were together and the family’s situation had improved, she treated acting as a hobby and a dream.
Her thinking was clear: while she was young and loved acting, she would do what she loved. Once her dream was fulfilled, she would come home to be a good wife and mother.
As for fame and status in the entertainment industry, Fan Baobao felt they had nothing to do with her.
Back when she was in dire straits, on the verge of losing everything, which entertainment company or agent had come to her and said, “I’ll help you”?
The coldness of human relationships and the fickleness of the world—these eight words, this young woman in her early twenties had already figured out thoroughly.
Fan Baobao knew clearly that she would never find a man who treated her better than Zhao Fusheng.
Since she couldn’t find one, she had to hold on tight!
