Chapter 008: Departure

After some deliberation, Wang Bo accepted Triton's surrender.
He did not make things difficult for Triton.
After all, this guy was no obscure deity. If he were a god of little fame or lesser renown, Wang Bo could have simply commanded the demons to kill him.
But the problem was that Triton was no ordinary god.
He was the son of Poseidon, the Sea King, and Amphitrite, the Sea Queen—a legitimate deity, not even a bastard. If Triton were killed here, Poseidon would surely fly into a rage.
He would definitely seek out the murderer.
At that point, Wang Bo would likely have to face Poseidon himself.
In Greek mythology, Poseidon was no good fellow. Though not the old lecher Zeus who bedded any pretty woman he saw, he was still a hot-tempered brute.
Poseidon's divine nature was broad, marked by strong aggression and immense ambition. He constantly schemed to seize Zeus's throne, but when Zeus discovered this, he exiled Poseidon to the mortal realm to serve punishment, helping King Laomedon build the city of Troy.
To be honest, Poseidon was certainly unwilling to do this.
But the problem was, Poseidon couldn't defeat Zeus.
So he had no choice but to grudgingly agree.
Beyond this incident, Poseidon often clashed with other gods.
For instance, once he competed with Athena to name the new city Athens and lost to the goddess of wisdom. Another time, he quarreled fiercely with Apollo over the king of Corinth and emerged victorious.
From these actions, it was clear that Poseidon was absolutely a restless figure. If Wang Bo killed Triton here, conflict with Poseidon would be unavoidable.
However, Wang Bo was not afraid of Poseidon.
With his current strength, he was no less than any major god in Greek mythology, including Poseidon, and of course, Zeus.
But the problem was, if Wang Bo clashed with Poseidon, would the other gods stand idly by?
Possibly, but not very likely.
The Greek gods loved to brawl, often fighting among themselves. For example, Ares, the god of war, once cuckolded his own brother Hephaestus.
He fathered five children with Aphrodite, Hephaestus's wife, which showed that relations among the Greek gods were far from friendly.
But unfriendly as they were, if an outsider came to bully the Greek gods, especially a major god in Greek mythology,
then the other gods would certainly intervene. Whether for their own pride or interests, they would all strike at Wang Bo.
At that point, Wang Bo would face not just Poseidon, but the entire pantheon of Greek gods.
Though he believed himself no less than any single god, he was not arrogant enough to think he could effortlessly crush the entire Greek pantheon.
If Wang Bo possessed the power of the Buddha Without Heaven, he could remain unafraid.
But the problem was, he did not.
So Wang Bo had to carefully consider the consequences of killing Triton. Ultimately, he decided to spare Triton, partly because the consequences were too great,
and partly because Triton had not angered him.
Thus Wang Bo waved his hand, sending all the demons back to the Time Villa, and dispelled the mirror space. Triton, Malthus, and Caroline all appeared in Wang Bo's small bar.
But compared to Triton, who wore a bitter smile, Malthus and Caroline were far worse off, covered in bloodstains. Clearly, they had suffered greatly in the earlier battle.
If Wang Bo hadn't decisively summoned a thousand demons, these two would likely have been killed by Triton.
"Master."
Malthus and Caroline, upon seeing Wang Bo, knelt on one knee with faces full of shame.
They had been promoted to upper demons thanks to Wang Bo, yet they had never defeated any enemies for him. Today, especially, they had been so thoroughly beaten—they didn't want to die, but their shame was genuine.
Wang Bo said nothing, merely sending the two demons back to recover from their injuries.
After all, their opponent this time was no mere nobody, but Triton, son of Poseidon.
Losing was no disgrace.
Triton studied Wang Bo carefully. No matter how he looked, Wang Bo appeared human, with no trace of demonic aura. But Triton knew this was merely a disguise.
This man before him was likely the King of Hell.
"Triton greets you."
He stood straight and bowed to Wang Bo.
Wang Bo narrowed his eyes, scanning Triton until the latter grew uneasy, then slowly said, "I ask you, what is your purpose in coming here?"
In all the plots of the Pirates of the Caribbean world, the only deity to appear formally was Calypso, and even she appeared in a sealed form.
Once her divine power was restored, she vanished.
No other god ever showed even a shadow, so Wang Bo was very curious about Triton's appearance.
Triton involuntarily glanced at the pirate Eustass Kid and said, "I came for him."
Wang Bo thought to himself that gods were immortal and had likely long grown weary of this world. Only a pirate from another world could pique a god's interest.
Not to mention that Eustass Kid was no ordinary pirate but a Devil Fruit user.
Wang Bo asked with interest, "Tell me, Triton, did you come for this pirate out of your own interest, or on Poseidon's orders?"
Triton said, "Poseidon has already left this world. I came for this pirate of my own accord. I am very interested in the things he carries."
"Devil Fruit, right?"
"Devil Fruit?" Triton was taken aback and couldn't help asking, "Could it be that these strange abilities are your handiwork?"
Wang Bo was startled, then burst into laughter.
Devil Fruits and demons were indeed easy to confuse.
"It has nothing to do with me, Triton." Wang Bo shook his head and said, "I have no interest in Devil Fruits. If you need him, you may take him away at any time."
Triton bowed his head and said, "Thank you for your mercy."
"But I don't want anyone to know I am here. Do you understand me, Triton?" Wang Bo said with a faint smile, looking at the son of the sea god.
Triton's scalp tingled, and he quickly said, "Yes. About today's events, I will keep my mouth shut. No one will learn anything about you from me. You can rest assured."
Wang Bo nodded and said, "Good. You may leave."
