Chapter 021: The Hearing

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第021章 听证会

A few more days passed, and finally the day of the hearing arrived.

The United Nations was sharpening its knives, eager to snatch a large piece of fat from Wang Bo's hands. This was not the will of a single country, but the will of many.

No one was willing to accept that a businessman could control two planets.

This simply did not align with the development of the current era.

If it were the distant future, when humanity had dominated the Milky Way and possessed countless planets and resources, then a businessman like Wang Bo might emerge.

One or two planets would mean nothing to humans who already owned the galaxy.

But not now.

All countries still lived on a single Earth, squabbling over scraps of resources, yet here was a businessman who owned two planets and had the actual capability to develop them.

Any country would be jealous, let alone an individual.

More importantly, in the eyes of the United Nations, Wang Bo was just a businessman, utterly incapable of protecting those two planets. So they united, determined to take a bite out of him without hesitation.

Their goal was to force Wang Bo to cough up the two planets.

Want to monopolize them? No way, not even through the window.

In any case, this hearing had only one purpose: to prove that Wang Bo's purchase of the planets was illegal, so he had no ownership rights to the two planets, let alone the right to exploit their resources.

If Wang Bo insisted on developing the planets regardless, then the United Nations had the authority to confiscate his tools, namely the Hammer Group.

In plain terms, the many countries behind the United Nations were envious, because Wang Bo had been too ostentatious lately, and they wanted to join forces to suppress him.

Ideally, they would dismantle Wang Bo's Hammer Group and carve it up piece by piece.

Of course, that was if Wang Bo proved uncooperative.

If Wang Bo was sensible and willing to back down, they could also take a step back, continue as his partners, and purchase his spaceships to exploit the resources of the Moon and Mars.

In short, their goal was simple: treat Wang Bo as a merchant selling spaceships, and nothing more—a mere spaceship seller, with no right to exploit the Moon or Mars.

Only countries like themselves had the right to exploit the Moon and Mars.

So when Wang Bo arrived at the hearing, utterly bored, he was immediately met with a barrage of attacks from many countries. Numerous people presented a pile of evidence claiming that Wang Bo's purchase of the Moon and Mars was procedurally illegal.

During the proceedings, bribery was mentioned several times, implying that Wang Bo had only been able to buy the Moon and Mars through bribery.

Without bribery, following legal procedures, he could never have bought the Moon and Mars.

Wang Bo sat in the hearing seat with a smile on his face, watching everyone's earnest performance. He yawned, thinking to himself that these people had prepared thoroughly.

The chairman of the hearing, seeing Wang Bo yawn, was inwardly furious. He banged the table a few times, telling Wang Bo to mind his manners.

Wang Bo rolled his eyes and said, "Bastards!"

Everyone was startled.

The chairman's face turned green with anger. He couldn't help saying, "Justin Hammer, you are too arrogant. You should apologize for your behavior. I order you to apologize to everyone immediately!"

"Why should I apologize? Because you're all a bunch of bastards?"

The crowd grew even more astonished, with exclamations rising one after another. Many glared at Wang Bo with angry eyes, and some, driven by fury and shame, began cursing him loudly.

Wang Bo slammed the table and abruptly stood up, his oppressive gaze sweeping the room. No one dared to meet his eyes.

"Forget it," Wang Bo said coldly. "You know better than I do whether my procedures for purchasing the Moon and Mars are legal. If you want the Moon and Mars, fine, I'll give them to you. I don't want them anymore."

"A bunch of bastards!"

With that, Wang Bo turned and walked away, utterly fed up with the scheming hearing.

After leaving the hearing, his new secretary, Black Widow, caught up with him. "Boss, you were too impulsive."

"I don't care," Wang Bo said nonchalantly.

"Actually, things can still be salvaged," Black Widow said. "If we take a step back, we might be able to secure development rights for part of the Moon and Mars."

Wang Bo replied, "I'm not about to compromise. From now on, suspend all contracts with every country. Halt construction on all spaceships currently being built, and immediately destroy any that are already finished."

Black Widow was taken aback. You're really going to fight the UN to the bitter end, she thought.

She quickly tried to persuade him: "Boss, doing this will only put you in a worse position."

"Yes, but do you think I care?" Wang Bo turned to look at her and smiled.

He had never planned to stay long in this world anyway. Once he found the time traveler, he would just leave, and no one could do anything to him.

If they kept pressing him, Wang Bo would teach them a lesson, then go to Kamar-Taj to study magic, or travel to other planets to relax.

As for the petty scheming on Earth, Wang Bo couldn't care less.

Even if he offended every country, so what?

Black Widow hadn't expected Wang Bo to be so uncompromising. Looking at his smiling face, she wondered whether he was just recklessly bold or truly confident.

Just then, Black Widow suddenly recalled the Mars Empire plan Wang Bo had mentioned a few days ago.

She remembered him saying that if the UN went too far, he would simply go to Mars and establish a nation, leaving Earth behind.

At the time, she had said that founding a nation on Mars was no easy feat, involving far too many technical challenges.

Could it be that her boss actually had a complete set of technological preparations?

If so, that would be astonishing.

After a moment's thought, Black Widow decided to probe him. "Boss, do you already have a plan?"

Wang Bo looked at her beautiful profile and asked, "Why do you think that?"

"Because you told me you once wanted to establish a nation on Mars."

Wang Bo paused, his eyes lighting up, then he laughed. "That's right, the Mars nation—that's my trump card. I didn't expect you to figure it out. You're quite sharp, Natalia."

Black Widow was taken aback. If Wang Bo had stammered and denied it, she could have confirmed her guess.

But now, seeing him admit it so readily, she began to doubt her own judgment.

Was he telling the truth or not?

For a moment, even with her experience, she couldn't glean any useful information from Wang Bo's face.
