Chapter 009: The Origin of Spider-Gwen

A smile immediately appeared on Spider-Gwen's face.

"You do know me, after all."

Wang Bo could have slapped himself—he had answered too quickly. A normal person, upon hearing that question, would never have replied at once.

But Wang Bo had answered too quickly, almost the instant Spider-Gwen asked the question.

This reaction precisely proved that Wang Bo knew Spider-Gwen.

"Who are you, and why do you know me?"

When Spider-Gwen first arrived in this world, she was astonished, never expecting that the world of Batman from the comics actually existed.

Yes, things are just that magical.

In the Marvel universe, DC comics actually exist. Spider-Man once read Superman comics, and in Spider-Man 1, Aunt May said Peter wasn't Superman.

Conversely, the DC universe also has Marvel comics.

So when Spider-Gwen arrived in Gotham City, she immediately realized that she had come to Batman's world.

But after the initial excitement wore off, Spider-Gwen quickly realized something.

That was that she was alone, without a single relative or friend in this world, and no one knew her.

Although she had read Spider-Man comics in this world, unfortunately, the Spider-Man here was Peter Parker, not her, and there were no Spider-Gwen comics in this world.

So she was well aware that in this world she was like a ghost, with no one knowing her.

But now, Spider-Gwen discovered that she might not be alone.

Wang Bo was not as excited as Spider-Gwen, because he didn't want to get involved with these superheroes at all. So Wang Bo said decisively, "Sorry, I don't know you."

"Come on, you're terrible at lying." Spider-Gwen didn't believe him at all.

Wang Bo said, "I'm not lying. I've just read your comic books."

"Comics?" Spider-Gwen immediately retorted, "I know there are Spider-Man comics in this world, but that person is Peter Parker, not me."

Wang Bo retorted, "I didn't say I've read your comics in this world."

Spider-Gwen said in surprise, "So you're from another world?"

Superheroes like those from DC or Marvel are well aware of the existence of the multiverse, especially Spider-Gwen, who has even been to other worlds herself.

According to Wang Bo's understanding of Spider-Gwen, the original Gwen Stacy was merely a hot-tempered teenage drummer, but after being bitten by a radioactive spider, she gained the abilities of Spider-Man.

And she initially became Spider-Woman just to get a fresh thrill.

Of course, every version of Spider-Man must learn the lesson "With great power comes great responsibility" in some way.

Tragically ironic, Spider-Gwen learned this lesson from the death of her closest friend—the original Peter Parker.

But in Spider-Gwen's universe, Peter Parker is not Spider-Man, but an ordinary person.

In this timeline, Parker fell in love with Spider-Gwen.

But he himself had no superpowers, was not a superhero. He longed to be different, to have the freedom to do what he wanted, to no longer be bullied but to be loved and praised. This longing, this vanity, turned into a desire to seek power.

Thus, he wanted to create an experimental super-soldier.

Unfortunately, this experimental subject went terribly wrong: Parker turned into a lizard man, his mind consumed by a savage reptilian brain.

Spider-Gwen, unaware of the truth, thought this new villain was utterly insane. Believing she was merely fighting a mindless monster, she killed the Lizard.

When the dying Lizard Man transformed back into Parker, Spider-Gwen finally learned the truth. Heartbroken, she eventually realized that she had a responsibility to use her powers correctly.

Spider-Gwen became a wanted fugitive, accused of murdering Peter Parker.

To protect Peter's reputation, she chose to accept the blame rather than let the world know that Peter himself was the mysterious Lizard attacking the city.

Another painful but ironic twist: the detective tasked with arresting Spider-Gwen is her own father — George Stacy.

Later, Spider-Gwen once arrived in a parallel world and met another Spider-Man.

Miles Morales!

He is the second Spider-Man in Marvel's Ultimate Universe.

The reason he is called the second Spider-Man is that in Marvel's Ultimate Universe, the first Spider-Man, Peter Parker, died, so the African-Latino teenager Miles Morales became the second Spider-Man of that universe.

In the world of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," Spider-Gwen once had a brief encounter with Miles, and even sparked a romantic flame.

But the two were ultimately not from the same world, so this relationship came to nothing.

This is also why Spider-Gwen believed that Wang Bo came from another world.

Perhaps in this Batman world, there is no comic of her as Spider-Gwen.

But that doesn't mean there are no comics of Spider-Gwen in other worlds.

"Yes, I come from another world. Now you understand, I don't know you," Wang Bo said.

Spider-Gwen didn't care about any of that; she only knew that her interest in Wang Bo was growing.

"When did you come to this world?"

“Why are you asking about that?”

“I just wanted to get to know my companion.”

“We are not companions, Miss Spider-Gwen.”

“Just call me Gwen.” Spider-Gwen pulled off her mask, revealing a beautiful face with blonde hair and blue eyes. Wang Bo had to admit that Spider-Gwen was even more beautiful than in the comics.

She is indeed a rare beauty.

"Although we come from different worlds, we have arrived in this world at the same time. I believe there must be a reason for this, so I think we are companions."

Spider-Gwen graciously extended an invitation to Wang Bo, "Would you like to join me in finding a way home?"

Wang Bo flatly refused, "Sorry, I'm not interested in going home."

If it were possible, Wang Bo would very much like to go home, but the problem was that damned cheat system would absolutely never allow him to return.

So now he just wants to muddle along as best he can.
