Chapter 009: The Favored One

Faced with Evelyn's confident demand, Wang Bo said simply.

"As far as I know, to deal with the Scorpion King, one must be mortal. That is, before challenging the Scorpion King, Anubis will take away your magical power."

Evelyn said decisively, "Then the Scorpion King is up to you."

She was confident but not foolish. Without magic, how could she, an ordinary mage, defeat the ancient king?

O'Connell said, "Need my help?"

Karen glanced worriedly at her husband but said nothing.

Wang Bo said, "Come if you like. I'm strong enough now to protect you all. Consider it an outing."

Alex's eyes lit up. "Does that mean I can come too?"

Karen and O'Connell said in unison, "No!"

Alex protested, "But Uncle Wang said it's just an outing. Isn't that right, Uncle Wang?"

The young lad, though small, was shrewd and knew how to seek help.

Wang Bo said calmly, "I'll allow you to join, but you must first convince your parents."

Alex was first delighted, then alarmed, and finally looked at Wang Bo with a crestfallen face.

O'Connell rubbed his temples and said, "Karen, you should discipline your son."

Karen said, "Maybe he'll be bedridden for a few days. Is that okay?"

O'Connell said, "Yes, I agree."

"I don't agree." Alex shivered and retorted loudly.

But he was mercilessly suppressed by his mother. Wang Bo could see that Karen was not a doting mother but rather strict with her son.

The little guy might have a hard time ahead.

After dinner, everyone settled down in Wang Bo's guest rooms.

Not long after Wang Bo returned to his room, he heard Alex's screams. Clearly, the little guy was paying for his audacity.

After Alex's screams subsided, Wang Bo drifted into a pleasant dream.

The next day, Wang Bo woke up feeling he had forgotten something. After a moment, he remembered and took out a World Gate, connecting to Middle-earth.

Soon, Hela came from Middle-earth to this world.

"Is this the new world? What kind of world is it?"

Wang Bo replied, "This world is similar to Midgard in your world, but this world has gods. The only god I've encountered so far is Anubis, the Egyptian god of death."

Hela couldn't help but laugh. "Death god, huh?"

She was also a death god, a genuine goddess of death!

Wang Bo said, "Don't underestimate the gods of this world. They're different from your Asgard; they don't have such short lifespans. The gods here can easily live tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of years. And their power is not as simple as you imagine."

Hela nodded, her expression growing more serious.

Unlike Wang Bo, she had lived a long time and knew better than anyone that the longer a god lived, the more powerful they were. In the world of gods, time meant accumulation and strength.

Hela thought that if she could live tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years, accumulating power to surpass Odin would no longer be a dream.

Wang Bo went downstairs with Hela to the dining room, where everyone was gathered for breakfast.

Jonathan's eyes lit up at the sight of Hela behind Wang Bo, and he couldn't help asking, "Who is this beautiful lady?"

Wang Bo said, "Hela, the goddess of death in Norse mythology. Of course, I mean in another world, not this one."

Whether this world had Norse mythology was another question.

Jonathan quickly lowered his head.

Everyone stared in astonishment at the goddess behind Wang Bo. Although Wang Bo had told his story yesterday, they had taken it as a tale, since there was no proof.

But now, Wang Bo had suddenly brought a goddess of death, and the famous Hela at that.

This left everyone stunned.

"Hela? Isn't she Loki's daughter?" Evelyn said in surprise.

Hela was taken aback. "Who is Loki?" she asked.

Evelyn: "..."

She couldn't help looking at Wang Bo. Hela didn't even know who her own father was. Was she sure she was Hela?

Wang Bo turned and said, "In Norse mythology, you are Loki's daughter. Loki is the god of mischief and lies, also the fire god. He is the son of the giant Fárbauti and the giantess Laufey, the sworn brother of Odin, the chief god of the Aesir. By the way, besides you, Loki's children include the World Serpent Jörmungandr and the wolf Fenrir."

Hela sneered, "Nonsense! Laufey is the king of the Frost Giants, a male. And Fenrir is just my pet. I am not Loki's daughter. I am Odin's daughter, the first heir to the throne of Asgard."

Evelyn looked at Hela, doubting her own understanding of mythology.

Wang Bo said, "Every world's mythology differs. That's normal. As far as I know, in most Norse mythologies, you are Loki's daughter."

He paused and continued, "Even in your own world, in some parallel worlds, you are Loki's daughter, not Odin's."

Hela narrowed her eyes. "Then in my world, who is Loki?"

Wang Bo said, "He is the son of the giant Laufey, adopted by your father, and is your brother."

Hela laughed coldly. "Adopting the son of the Frost Giant Laufey. My father is as hypocritical as ever."

Wang Bo smiled and said nothing. How Hela thought was her own business, none of his concern.

Hela's gaze shifted to Evelyn, recognizing her uniqueness. "You are favored by death. Which god favors you?"

Evelyn replied respectfully, "I am favored by Anubis, the Keeper of the Dead."

Hela's gaze returned to Wang Bo. "Anubis is the god you met. How powerful is he?"

Wang Bo said wryly, "When I met Anubis, I was weak. I really don't know how powerful he is."

Hela nodded thoughtfully.

Wang Bo said, "I advise you not to fight Anubis. He is the death god of the Egyptian pantheon. If you attack, you'll provoke not just Anubis but the entire Ennead."
