Chapter 040: The Rich

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第040章 有钱人

When Catwoman heard that what Wang Bo wanted her to do was to be a contact person, she couldn't help but be a little surprised.

She said in surprise, "Who do you want me to contact? It's not your accomplice, is it?"

"You're overthinking it. The person I want you to contact is a super-rich tycoon in Gotham City."

"Super-rich tycoon? As far as I know, Gotham City has many super-rich tycoons. Who are you talking about?"

"The richest one, of course."

"The richest?" Catwoman quickly thought of someone. If there was anyone in Gotham who was the richest, it was undoubtedly the eldest son of that enterprise. "Bruce Wayne!"

Wang Bo snapped his fingers and said, "That's right, it's him."

Many people are not quite clear just how rich Bruce Wayne really is.

Wang Bo recalled that Forbes had once published a list of the wealthiest fictional characters, compiled by the magazine based on the value of characters appearing in media such as games and movies, with their wealth tied to the global economy of that year.

One of the main criteria for inclusion on the list was that these characters must be well-known in the real world; market factors, especially those related to merchandise, also informed the list's valuation.

The one ranked first seemed to be Donald Duck's uncle... Scrooge McDuck!

There was once a very famous meme on the internet.

This Scrooge McDuck once said: 'If I lose a billion dollars every minute, I'll be bankrupt in six hundred years.'

From this, one can see just how wealthy this character really is.

But according to the Forbes Fictional 15, Scrooge's wealth is 65.4 billion dollars.

It seems insufficient to support the audacity of going bankrupt after six hundred years at a rate of one billion dollars per minute.

But the Forbes Fictional 15 is only personal wealth.

The company's wealth was not included in the calculation.

From this, one can see just how wealthy this company of Donald Duck's uncle really is.

Also, Wang Bo remembered that the second place seemed to be Smaug from The Hobbit, Iron Man ranked fourth, and Old Master Bruce Wayne ranked sixth.

His personal assets were a good nine-something billion US dollars.

This more than nine billion dollars didn't seem enough to make Bruce Wayne the richest man in Gotham City, but anyone who believed this was all of Bruce Wayne's assets would be a fucking idiot.

In the comics, the Wayne family directly or indirectly owned nearly one-third of Gotham City's land and an even higher share of its buildings, exerting an influence of up to 50% over the city's economy and even the probability of its industries.

The properties Bruce purchased to provide affordable housing for Gotham's middle and lower classes, as well as the land he acquired to build institutions such as hospitals and orphanages, strictly speaking, still belong to Bruce Wayne.

Owning a third of Gotham City, Bruce Wayne is so wealthy that even he himself might not fully know just how rich he is.

However, this does not prevent people from knowing that Bruce Wayne is rich.

The richer a person is in Gotham, the more clearly they understand just how wealthy Bruce Wayne truly is.

In the minds of many, the richest person in Gotham City is undoubtedly Bruce Wayne.

Even Catwoman was no exception to this.

"Your partner is actually Bruce Wayne? Is he crazy?" When Catwoman heard that the person Wang Bo wanted her to contact was actually the richest man in Gotham City, she was utterly shocked.

A madman who blew up a courthouse was actually an accomplice of Bruce Wayne?

This is just too crazy.

"Miss Selina Kyle, I think you've been mistaken from the very beginning," Wang Bo said. "You don't actually think I was the one who blew up the courthouse, do you?"

"If not you, then who? Or perhaps there are secrets in this that I don't know about." Catwoman sensed something.

Wang Bo said, "Yes, there is indeed a secret. The one who blew up the courthouse was a member of the League of Shadows. I'm just an unlucky guy framed by them."

"The League of Shadows, you really have stirred up a group of people you shouldn't have."

Catwoman seemed somewhat emotional, but whether she believed Wang Bo's words or not was anyone's guess.

"You seem to know about the League of Shadows?" Wang Bo asked.

Catwoman nodded and said, "I only know that much. Their power is immense, and they are not to be trifled with. Someone once warned me never to provoke those lunatics."

Wang Bo agreed wholeheartedly. When watching the movie, Batman seemed to dispatch the Ninja Master in a few moves, but after actually coming into contact with them, he realized he had underestimated this ancient organization.

Their every move was earth-shattering, forcing Wang Bo to dodge and hide.

"So now I need you to help me contact Bruce Wayne." Wang Bo said.

"No problem," Catwoman said. "You just mentioned there's a reward."

"That's right."

"Then how much are you planning to pay me? If it's too low, I won't do it. After all, helping you means provoking those terrifying people." The cat-eared girl was well aware of her own capabilities.

After all, she was nothing more than a jewel thief.

Is it on the same level as the League of Shadows?

However, tipping off was not very dangerous; as long as the price was right, she was willing to accept.

"Then how much compensation do you want?" Wang Bo asked.

"How about one hundred thousand US dollars?"

The Catwoman thought for a moment and named a price. For simply running an errand, she could earn a hundred thousand US dollars. If the other party truly agreed, she would be willing to do it.

"A hundred thousand US dollars? You really have the nerve to ask for that much."

Catwoman opened the cold drink, took a sip, and let out a comfortable burp. "You have to understand, you've provoked the League of Shadows. I'm taking a huge risk helping you. One hundred thousand dollars is not expensive at all."

“Fine.” Wang Bo agreed. “But you’d better not mess this up.”

"Don't worry." Catwoman's eyes were full of confidence, and she said proudly, "Have you ever seen me fail?"

When she struck, she never returned empty-handed.

"All right, I'll trust you this once. What you need to do is simple: find Bruce Wayne and tell him that Jonathan Crane of Arkham Asylum is a henchman of Ra's al Ghul. He's been injecting a toxin into Gotham City's water supply through the municipal water system, a toxin that can cause hallucinations and, in severe cases, death."

Catwoman's entire face changed. "Who are you? Are we poisoned?"

She had used tap water for cooking and drinking more than a few times.

"Don't worry," Wang Bo said. "This toxin only takes effect when inhaled as a gas; drinking it is completely harmless."

"Is that so?" Catwoman looked at Wang Bo with a mixture of belief and doubt, trying to discern whether he was just comforting her.

Wang Bo said, "Tell Bruce Wayne to find the Ninja Master as soon as possible and capture him; otherwise, the entire Gotham City will be destroyed by the Ninja Master."

Catwoman said, "What's the use of telling Bruce Wayne about something so important? He's just a playboy—can he really capture Ra's al Ghul? You should tell the police!!"
