Chapter 0228: The Script

Rebirth of a Perfect Future · 第0228章 剧本

Even when she went to bed, Fan Baobao couldn't figure out what her roommates were so surprised about. Zhao Fusheng was just an assistant; even if they were shooting an ad, it had nothing to do with him.

But in her roommates' eyes, she was too close to see clearly. Zhao Fusheng, only a junior, could participate in an ad shoot as an assistant. For these senior students, they knew more about the inside story. It seemed that Fan Baobao's boyfriend was doing well in the future advertising industry.

However, since Fan Baobao looked clueless, it seemed he didn't intend to tell her.

Naturally, her roommates wouldn't do anything unnecessary. As for Zhou Yun, she was even worse off than Fan Baobao. After all, Fan Baobao had at least shot one ad, while Zhou Yun had never even had such an opportunity.

If Zhao Fusheng knew that a single phone call had kept many people awake tonight, he would have laughed out loud. After all, for someone who was increasingly becoming like an old man, there weren't many things that could make him happy.

Since he had left that party, Zhao Fusheng had no intention of going back. He never liked socializing and such things anyway.

Back in his hotel room, Zhao Fusheng took a shower and fell into a deep sleep. After a whole day of exhaustion, his whole body was tired, and he was in a dazed state.

……

……

"Hoo…"

Zhao Fusheng slept soundly, snoring like thunder.

Outside the window, peals of thunder rang out, as if foretelling something.

It rained heavily all night. When Zhao Fusheng opened his eyes again, it was already past nine in the morning the next day.

Rubbing his eyes, Zhao Fusheng propped himself up on the bed and sat up. He glanced around the room, then shook his head to force himself awake.

He looked at his phone and saw six or seven missed calls, all from Dong Chenxi.

He called back. Before Zhao Fusheng could speak, a furious roar came from the receiver: "Zhao Fusheng, Zhao Planner, Zhao Assistant, where are you?"

Clearing his throat, Zhao Fusheng thought for a moment and decided to use a white lie to change the awkward situation. He blinked and said into the phone, "Well, I'm writing a script."

"A script?"

Dong Chenxi was stunned, clearly not expecting Zhao Fusheng to give her such an answer.

Zhao Fusheng said very seriously to Dong Chenxi, "It's like this: last night, Andy talked with me a lot. He thought this ad concept of mine could be adapted into a movie, so I stayed up all night writing the script. I was too sleepy in the morning and fell asleep…"

Generally, if Zhao Fusheng had made any other excuse, Dong Chenxi might not have believed him. But given Andy Lau and the others' performance yesterday, plus the fact that Zhao Fusheng was invited to dinner, Dong Chenxi knew that, though reluctant to admit it, Zhao Fusheng indeed had some talent in certain areas.

Thinking this, Dong Chenxi's tone softened a bit, and she said to Zhao Fusheng, "So, are you coming over today?"

Zhao Fusheng thought for a moment and asked cautiously, "Is there anything at the shooting site that needs me?"

Dong Chenxi was taken aback. After careful thought, she really couldn't find anything that required Zhao Fusheng's presence. After all, he had written the ad script in great detail, almost like a storyboard. Yesterday, director Zhou Li had been muttering that he, as the director, had almost nothing to do, and the money was too easy to earn.

With that in mind, she sighed helplessly and shook her head: "Forget it. You stay in the hotel and continue writing the script."

After all, Zhao Fusheng outranked her in status. Although she was the producer, Dong Chenxi knew very well that this was just a decision Zhao Fusheng made to avoid trouble.

So since Zhao Fusheng made it clear he had important work to do, she said no more.

Hanging up the phone, Zhao Fusheng shrugged and couldn't help but laugh at himself. This assistant was indeed well-chosen. Although Dong Chenxi was somewhat rigid, she was very conscientious.

People like her might not become big bosses, but they are indispensable in every company.

But the conversation with Dong Chenxi reminded him. Since he had such a long vacation, he might as well take this opportunity to write the script for "Infernal Affairs."

The name "Infernal Affairs" comes from Buddhist scripture, which says that the Avici Hell is the most painful of the eight hells. Two people whose identities don't belong to them live as if in an Avici Hell, always afraid of being exposed. In this world, the confusion of roles becomes the root of exploration: what is the truth of life, the way of being human?

The Avici Hell has no reincarnation, only eternal suffering, but the two protagonists in the film refuse to accept this. Two men with confused identities are moles for the police and the triad respectively. Now they are determined to leave this situation where right and wrong are blurred, to leave the Avici Hell and find themselves.

The main characters of the entire film are these two moles, Lau Kin-ming and Chan Wing-yan, while triad boss Hon Sam and police superintendent Wong Chi-shing are equally important.

It's no exaggeration to say that these four characters form the conflict of the entire "Infernal Affairs."

The plot was already in Zhao Fusheng's mind. After all, having seen the classic film many times, writing it out didn't take much effort. The only trouble was that he was a bit unsure about who to cast for the role of Wong Chi-shing.

The original actor for this role was Anthony Wong. Zhao Fusheng didn't know if he had changed due to his butterfly effect, but in Zhao Fusheng's view, no matter what, he definitely wouldn't use this person.

After pondering for a long time, Zhao Fusheng still couldn't come up with an answer.

After all, he wasn't very familiar with Hong Kong actors. Finding a male actor who could play a police officer well and hold his own against Eric Tsang and Leslie Cheung was really not easy.

He took out his phone, intending to go online, but then realized that this wasn't a smartphone, and he wasn't in that era of information explosion.

Shaking his head, Zhao Fusheng stopped thinking about casting. He picked up a pen and paper and began writing the script in his notebook.

……

A whole day passed. When Zhao Fusheng stopped again, he found that it was already evening.

He stood up, stretched, and his body made a series of cracking sounds. Suddenly, Zhao Fusheng felt extremely tired all over.

"This really isn't a job for humans."

Muttering to himself, Zhao Fusheng truly admired scriptwriters. What kind of mindset and perseverance did they have to keep writing year after year?

Looking down at his first draft, Zhao Fusheng thought for a moment and decided to show it to Andy Lau tomorrow.

Some things are better done while the iron is hot.
