Chapter 040: The Chase

获得主角能力的我只想过平凡生活 · 第040章 追杀

Wang Bo rambled on and on, but found that Roberta seemed unmoved.

From the start, her technique and pressure in scrubbing his back had not changed at all, as if she hadn't heard a word he said. This left Wang Bo somewhat disheartened.

Was his recruitment offer really worth so little, or did she simply not believe what he said?

Should he show her a thing or two?

Just then, his phone rang from the pocket of his clothes hanging outside.

Roberta seemed to hear the ringtone and said slowly, "Master, shall I bring it in for you?"

"No need." Wang Bo thought this was a good chance to show off. He raised his hand and grabbed, and the phone flew out of the pocket of his outer clothes, passed through the bathroom door, and landed in his hand.

Seeing this, Roberta couldn't help but freeze, and her movements involuntarily paused.

Feeling Roberta's reaction, Wang Bo was delighted. He answered the phone and said lazily, "Hello?"

Boom!

At that moment, an explosion suddenly came from the phone.

Wang Bo was startled. What was going on?

At the same time, Coulson's voice came through the phone, "Mr. Hammer, I'm very sorry to disturb you at this time, but I really need your help now."

"What happened?"

"It's Obadiah," Coulson said quickly. "He built a suit of armor called the Iron Monger and is chasing me and Tony Stark. The situation is critical, so I have to ask for your help."

"Hmph, isn't S.H.I.E.L.D. a bit unreliable?" Wang Bo couldn't help but complain.

Of course, he knew what the Iron Monger was, but things were different from the original plot now.

In the original plot, S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't know Obadiah was going to kill Tony Stark, so they didn't monitor him, allowing Obadiah to succeed step by step.

Not only did Obadiah build the Iron Monger and obtain the arc reactor, but he also almost killed Tony Stark.

But the problem was, because of his intervention, S.H.I.E.L.D. already knew Obadiah intended to harm Tony Stark, yet instead of taking action against Obadiah, they let him build the Iron Monger.

And now he was chasing them in the Iron Monger.

Wang Bo couldn't help but sneer. Was this S.H.I.E.L.D.'s efficiency?

Coulson detected Wang Bo's contempt for S.H.I.E.L.D. from that sneer, but he didn't retort; instead, he said anxiously, "It's hard to explain the specifics. If Mr. Hammer doesn't mind, could you save me and Tony Stark?"

"Wait," Wang Bo said. "I'll be there soon."

Coulson said bitterly, "I don't think we can hold out much longer—three minutes at most, no, one minute."

As he spoke, explosions and Tony Stark's urging voice could be heard from the phone.

Wang Bo acknowledged, told Roberta to stop scrubbing, spent a few seconds cleaning the dust off his body, and another second getting dressed, ready to go.

"Come on, Roberta, I'll show you my power now."

With that, Wang Bo teleported himself and Roberta.

In an instant, the two left home and arrived on a remote road.

On this road, a black car was speeding wildly.

Behind the car, a giant steel armor was in hot pursuit, occasionally raising its hand to fire a shell at the car ahead.

If not for the driver's superb skill in dodging the shells time and again, the black car would have been blown to pieces. But even so, the car was on the verge of falling apart, covered in scars, with even the driver's door blown off.

Using his X-ray vision, Wang Bo could see Tony Stark in the driver's seat and Coulson, who had just called, in the passenger seat.

Both looked disheveled and extremely tense.

Tony Stark saw through the rearview mirror that the Iron Monger was aiming at him, so he turned the steering wheel sharply, swerving left to avoid the incoming shell.

Boom!

The ground was shattered, and stones flew out.

The surging air turned into a powerful shockwave that slammed into the nearly wrecked car, sending it flying into the air. It spun several times before crashing down with a boom.

Fortunately, it landed on its wheels.

Unfortunately, the car was now completely out of control.

Luckily, Tony Stark's driving skills were good. After the car landed, he spun the steering wheel frantically and barely regained control. Before he could catch his breath, the Iron Monger caught up.

The massive Iron Monger landed right in front of the car, one hand pressing down on the hood, the other raised high and clenched into a fist. Obadiah's murderous voice came slowly.

"Goodbye, Tony!"

For a moment, Tony Stark and Coulson's hearts stopped.

Then... bang!

A loud thud rang out as the Iron Monger's chest was hit by a magic bullet. The tremendous impact sent the huge body flying backward. After flying more than ten meters, it tumbled across the ground, each roll leaving a large crater.

Wang Bo and Roberta appeared silently in the back seat of the car. Looking at the two still in shock, he said slowly, "So, can you tell me how Obadiah got the arc reactor on the Iron Monger?"

Wang Bo wasn't surprised that Obadiah built the Iron Monger.

Obadiah might have recovered the Mark I that Tony built in Afghanistan and used it to develop the Iron Monger.

Nor was Wang Bo surprised that Obadiah was chasing them.

Because the two had tried to lure Obadiah into acting, but he saw through it. So, he decided to go all the way and chased them home in the Iron Monger.

This also explained why Tony Stark wasn't wearing his suit—his suits were all at the villa.

At this point, Tony hadn't yet invented the wearable suit.

But what did surprise Wang Bo was that Obadiah had obtained an arc reactor.

Wasn't that thing supposed to be stored in Tony's villa?

Hadn't Tony already suspected Obadiah? Hadn't he become wary of him? Why did Obadiah still get the arc reactor?

Tony Stark said helplessly, "After the party, I got a report from Jarvis that someone broke into my villa and took the old arc reactor I had replaced."
